13 motorcycles and cars

Hello,i know there are a lot of car owners and enthusiasts here but i think there are plenty of bike riders between them.i am making this thread for 2 things:
1)to ask the admins if they can add motorcycle track times, make VS between bikes and cars.
2)I want bikers to tell about their bikes here.:) Myself can\'t brag, but i have a classic 1962 MZ ES 250.Hoping to get a 600 cc Honda in the future.
PS:i hope a post this where i should.I also see that i can\'t send PMs to users..so it\'s a bit complicated to talk with the staff and other people.

But a Ducati 1098 beat Tiff Needle in the Lambo Gallardo Supeleggera and the Duc 999 won against the \"normal\" Gallardo E GEar.The new beast is the BMW S 1000RR with full racing exhaust which absolutely humiliated a Corvette Zr1 with 700 hp in a straightline!

As I posted earlier, it depends on the track, the bike, and the car. The bike isn\'t always faster than the car and the car isn\'t always faster than the bike. It really is \"apples vs. oranges\"

sportscars made a compare between Walter Roehrl and Helmut Dähne(15time German bike champion and quickes bike driver on the northloop he holds this record since 1993!!!/winner of Isle of Man, 372 races with 126 wins) ... Dähne got his ass handed by Roehrl in a GT2 under the same conditions Walter beat Helmut by 40seconds!!!!!!

Actually, the bikes can (with the right rider) corner at a higher speed and higher lateral g's than a car. Surprisingly, the cars have an advantage under braking.

I found some links to some scans for some "Car vs Bike" articles that have been done over the years by various magazines. The results may surprise some people...(some are scans, sorry for the quality, they aren't mine)

Evo, December 2003
SPEED, October 2005
page 1

page 2

page 3

page 4

page 5

page 6

page 7 (with summary)
Even at a track like Willow Springs, over a dozen stock bikes beat the stock Viper ACR's time.

The problem with most "car vs bike" videos is that 1. the rider isn't giving it everything the bike has to offer. 2. Most car show are biased against the bikes.

in the straight line bikes gain to much advantage, due to much better acceleration and power/wheight ratio..a car posibly...sports car vs sports bike..cant beat the bike in 0-400 m run. but in the corners is totally another story...bikes dont have downforce so they need to slow down to much..cars with better power to wheight ratio as you said, has better chances to beat bikes in the track..but not only..for example..nissan gt-r beat a ducati in a track (autocar video) the same does the new supeleggera to the new Ducati...so im convinced that most of the cars are faster than bikes in the track.
ps: with a sportscar you are safe, with a sportsbike you put your life in real danger

and is no way to be worried for car fans because cars are much faster in track than motorbikes.

That isn\'t entirely true. It depends on the track, the bike, and the car. Some bikes are faster than most cars on the track.

When it comes to cars like the Caparo T1, UltimaGTR, etc. the bikes will usually lose because of the downforce of the cars. If the car is a ZR1, Viper, or other \"normal\" sportscar, a stock liter bike will usually lap faster.

\"www.fastestlaps.com is the first and only interactive roadcar lap time database in internet. Its dedicated for car lovers around the world who like to compare sports car performance in real track conditions.\"

You can find that paragraph under the About: About fastestlaps.com link.

Bikes have no place on fastestlaps in my honest opinion.

ok but what about in a straightline?

There was an old thread in Fastestlaps.com when some blokes where debating to add motorcycle laptimes. but is a complicated thing to add motorcycles in database because most of the tracks who motorcycles are tested have different layouts from the same track when cars are tested. so its imposible to compare a car to a motorcycle , when they arent tested in the same layout of the track. and is no way to be worried for car fans because cars are much faster in track than motorbikes.

The problem with laptimes for bikes is that some tests use the stock OEM tires while other tests (usually in comparison tests) will use the same non-stock tire for all of the bikes in the test.

There's also the problem of different configurations for bikes and cars at certain tracks.

It's a good idea but it would take a lot of work to create a database for bikes. I'd be willing to help with some but it is a lot of work.
