Yeah, I know someone with a JB3 tune and his 335i flies.

I'm just not sure if BMW would push the 3.0l that hard instead of just coming out with a new powerplant.

Only time will tell.

@Apathy: getting 400hp out of the 3.0 I6 isn't really a problem

hi i havent been on for a while sorry
m3s are usually boring but when they have proper engines they actually sound allright

Who doesn't like the BMWs?
And also I thought they might make the tri-turbo I6, but I guess that was a diesel engine for the 550.
I feel like inline 6s are just way cooler than V6s, no idea why.

You would think so, but I don't think the current 3.0l I6 can comfortably make the 400+hp required for the next M3.

Also, BMW recently patented a twin turbo V6: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=582941

I like how some of the Beemer fans on here (not those who posted on this page) claim I don't like BMW's and yet I still know what's upcoming with them. How odd. :D

And it should be an inline six cylinder most likely.

That's my point...the M3 is more known as a coupe. If there isn't an M3 coupe, there isn't truly an M3.

Back on the topic of the engine (which I can't vote on).

I think it could be a good thing. If it's lighter than the V8 and makes good power than sounds good to me. Also, a boosted engine would mean that it would make good power from mods and you wouldn't have to dish stupid amounts of money to tuners like Dinan for an extra 50hp. A tune only 335i makes pretty good power and the parts don't cost an arm and a leg.

It won't have that sweet V8 sound, but a V6 can sound good too (unless Nissan makes it). LOL/JK

They aren't renaming the 3 series or the M3, just the coupe models, what is reported is that BMW wants a coupe car based on the 3 series in the same vein as the 6 series is based on the 5 series, so no more M3 coupe, but there'll still be an M3 sedan.

User avatar

Jeff B  9y ago

The 3-Series and M3 are some of the most recognizable names in modern car history. Why would BMW change that by calling the 3 series coupe the 4-series? It's just journalist BS, I remember when they said the 458 would be called the F450 and the 991 911 would be called the 998. Don't believe the writers they are just guessing like us.

There actually IS a rumored 4 series coming out, but there will obviously still be an M3.

http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/11/15/spy-video-bmw-4-series-coupe/

I think the 1,3,5,7 fills all the sedan and coupe gaps, but some think bmw wants something between the 3 and 5.:|

I'll believe it when I see it.

M4 would imply BMW 4-series.That would be something!

User avatar

Jeff B  9y ago

Lol I guarantee it won't be called the M4. That's like porsche renaming the 911 the 1011....it's just a stupid idea.

M4 actually not M3 anymore

User avatar

supercharger  9y ago

i think a smaller engine would help bmw make a lighter m3

Well, this will be in the 1600kg range, the ZL1 has 580hp but weights 1905kg!!, the '13 GT500 has 650hp and weights 1746kg and we don't really know if it'll have wider rear tires at last.

User avatar

phavyarden  9y ago

Anyways, i thought that it would deliver neraly 500 hp, maybe they don't wanna to continue the war of horsepower, as the americans are doing ( ZL1, GT500 (800HP!? 650HP,EETC))

btw,I would like they make a N/A

User avatar

gt  9y ago

if they gonna go twin turbo they might aswell go +500.. the car really outclass it main competitors in handling, what it need is more power and grip for it..

User avatar

Jeff B  9y ago

True, although still not as light as the E46, and it wouldn't be as it is much larger.
I just don't think 450 ps is quite enough in today's market, even if it is 1600 kgs.

User avatar

But the F30 is lighter than the E9X, that wasn't the case when they went from the E46 to E9X
