@Shaggy
It's not an act, they really are screw ups. They have little to know mechanical knowledge about any car they "test", and they've even said that don't really know how engines work. Clarkson has been been shown as being ignorant to how forced induction works. The basics of automotive knowledge, and it goes right over his head.

Top Gear, both the show and the mag, are pure entertainment, nothing more. Notice that they never do any instrument testing? Literally every technical spec they give is regurgitated from a manufacturer's press release or something of the like.

It's like a Hollywood action movie, really. Just turn off your brain, grab a snack and enjoy.

I know I'm among serious car guys, here, so I don't know whether I can call Top Gear my guilty pleasure or not, I love Top Gear, the hosts crack me up. I don't know whether they're really screw ups or if it's just an act. If there were another care review based show on, I'd watch that more, when I watch Top Gear, I have to remind myself that it's more entertainment than information. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are the three stooges of car show hosts. I love the three stooges.

The db5 is much better looking than the rolls though

Super8  10y ago

Clarkson also said that Goldfinger Rolls Royce is somewhat faster than DB5. LOL! That means, Duesenberg SJ is also faster than DB5 cuz it's faster than that Rolls Royce

Super8  10y ago

Remember the episode where Aston DB5 Vantage Vs Jag E Type? In fact, Aston is much faster back in 60 also when they drive in that track, the Jag has already got modern tune up but Aston not. Isn't that make Aston looks bad?

love topgear, however mclaren f1 vs veyron drag race, was clearly not real. more like an ad than a real race

@BR2

There is a whole ton of people on the FQ400 vs Lambo page arguing that their Evos are as fast as lambos because clarkson says so.

Nevermind the huge difference in the actual times the cars posted.

I damn near threw my remote across the room when clarkson drove the ZR1 around the track powersliding with the pedal on the floor and proclaimed the car was a uncontrollable mad man. And then they set the lap time in the damn rain. Funny considering Clarkson bought a ZR1 for himself.

@Monkey, yes, I agree, they make cars look faster/slower then they are, for what reason? Its just stuopid, show the cars for what they can do, not what they cant, Im well aware of Top Gears Shananigans, and i never do listen to any of the performance times they list, Its and Entertainment show, and to be honest, id rather seem them just do the cars stunts n what not them review them.

But i think alot of the cars they miss, especially from the Americans, IE, ACR, S7, Aero, CTS, Boss 302 and others like, GT2RS, GT3 4.0, R8 GT, M3 GTS, FF, Agera, LF-A NSE etc, althe cars that SHOULD have been tested werent, and its a damned shame, having those would increase sales, and brand recognition, but no, and yes, more on this scripting.

The 458 and SLS EXACTLY the same in a 1/4? WHo are they kidding, there close, but not that cose, again same with there 911 Carrera, NSX, T350C, and C6 Comparo, they really need to stop with all this scripting.

Have you ever gotten into an argument with somebdy on Youtube about a Time or drag race on Top Gear?....-_- Prepare yourselves for some hilarious moments....smh

@BR2

Only problem lol. I'd say there is a lot more problems than that! I enjoy the show but its scripted to make certain cars look bad and certain cars look good. Its not a actual review show.. its a comedy and the hosts actually know very little about cars.

Tesla sued the show because one of their staff memebers found a pre-written script in which the cars battery died and clarkson has to push it back to the garage. So they had already decided what would happen during the review before the car was even tested. Top gear admitted in court that the cars battery did not die and the episode was a sham.

I'd rather watch fact based testing shows.

BR2,  10y ago

Only problem with Top Gear is they miss alot of important cars to test round there track.

User avatar

BR2,  10y ago

I Love Top Gear too, But ONLY as a pure entertainment program, they miss so many cars that should have been tested on there track.

Same here. To bad though that we have to wait another six months for the new episodes.

We are all doomed

It was a good episode. It only missed something like a 1/2 mile drag race. Would the Noble M600 catch Aventador at 1/4 or 1/2 mile mark? McLaren would be not far behind as well.

@Anon
Man at the end with Jeremy and the Aventador was simply epic, with him shouting at the car to make it, the blue flames and amazing sound from the exhaust...just amazing. I can tell this season will be so much better than last season.

You can't say watch illegally - nobody can ban you from watching whatever you want. Getting the access to watch smth is a different story.

By the way great first episode. It's great to see the trio true emotions at the imola track
