Those results are expected. It is a common misconception that the Corvette rivals the Viper; it's actually the Shelby S1 that does. The Shelby S1 also rivaled the Panoz Esperante.
The Viper was a middle-ground exotic car, slotting between Corvette (mass-produced semi-exotic) and Ford GT (full-fledge supercar, but with almost hypercar-at-the-time performance).
The Shelby S1 S/C was the closest equivalent to the 2003 Viper. Both were convertibles and not quite track cars.
The C5 Z06 was too focused on benchmarking 911 GT3/GT2, 360 Challenge Stradale, and Viper GTS ACR (which was before these two ever came out) — but at a MUCH cheaper price.
Like the Corvette, the S1 has the heart of a GM corporate vehicle. But not the one you'd like to hear about. It's a two-door, two-seat Oldsmobile Aurora with rear-wheel drive!
