Charger is faster but there is a catch, torque makes a huge difference as much if not more than the power-to-weight ratio. E55/CLS55 AMG Kompressor are no better than either or even the C5 RS6 or E39 M5, let alone E60 M5 for that matter but it still has gobbles of torque.

A broad powerband with plentiful torque is a useful feature frequently found in V8 engines. V8 powered performance cars are lots of fun to drive and they sound great too.

Exactly why I am trying to only compare same cylinder count vehicles these days. Even a force-fed V6 or turbo-four is no match in terms of durability, refinement, and efficiency. An inline-6 is probably the only other engine like a V8. The V10 and V12 engines are rather rare.

I agree, and that is why a majority of my cars have been V8 powered. I have experience with lots of cars with lots of powertrain configurations over the decades, yet both my current cars are V8 rear wheel drive.

I also agree that there are deviations in direct comparisons, like E60 M5 vs W211 E63 AMG, Quattroporte MkV vs S8 D3... but to compare a V8 to a 4-banger...pffftt..might as well a Charger SRT8 vs a Caliber SRT4

"E60 M5 vs W211 E63 AMG, Quattroporte MkV vs S8 D3..." vs Panamera S methinks. I think it would make for an interesting 5 or 10 lap race at most race tracks. I really love the Porsche V8 combined with the PDK.
