As someone who loves both cars, the funniest thing is seeing the fighting in the comments of videos talking about the Nurburgring times for both

I can say with certainty that if the ZR1 had the same level of downforce as the GTD, there would be no comparison.

Once again the Corvette is a bargain for its performance. The Corvette ZR1 ZTK can be purchased for under $190k, while the Mustang GTD costs $328k or thereabouts. This comparison got so much more interesting now that we have Nürburgring lap times.

Downforce gives more grip in high speed corners, but I have no equations to measure it. Mechanical grip can more easily be estimated, and it affects low and high speed corners. I also have experience with cars at the limit of grip at lower speeds, and therefore I understand mechanical grip better.
The 2025 Corvette ZR1, when equipped with the ZTK package, has front tires measuring 275/30ZR-20 and rear tires measuring 345/25ZR-21.
The Ford Mustang GTD has front tires measuring 325mm (roughly 325/30/20) and rear tires measuring 345mm (roughly 345/30/20).
Weight distribution is 40/60% for the Corvette and 50/50 for the Mustang. Curb weight is 4343 lbs versus 3750 lbs.
Weight on rear tyres is 2250 lbs for the Corvette; 2171.5 lbs for the Mustang. Weight on the front tyres is 1500 lbs for the Corvette; 2171.5 lbs for the Mustang. Skidpad grip of the Corvette is 1.13 g, while the Mustang is probably less due to excess weight. Weight transfer negatively effects grip in corners.
Conclusion is the Corvette should have much better acceleration grip going into and coming out of slow corners due to more mechanical grip. The Corvette has much less curb weight overall for the tyres to manage. Given equal tyres, the Corvette should have more mechanical grip. I predict that the Corvette ZR1 ZTK will post a significantly faster lap time than the Mustang GTD.

For reference, the unofficial Nürburgring lap time for the C7 ZR1 is 7:04.00, and the C8 Z06 achieved a 7:10.51 lap time. It’s a pretty safe bet that the C8 ZR1 will manage a Nürburgring lap time under the seven-minute mark. Its closest American rival, the limited-production Ford Mustang GTD, achieved a stunning lap time of 6:57.685 at the track, followed by an even faster time of 6:52.072.

More Risky RWD high power runs aren't consistent with our GM these days, IMO!
And the C7 ZR1 with a tire MOD, Active Aero, and tweaks, could have competed very well; IE The AMG! (Nurburg is commonly cool enough! LOL)😉
Maybe that ultimate controlled Zoro Hybrid Celebration someday, IMO!✔
(I surmised the C6 ZR1, its deeds since 2005, and all through, but times have changed!😢)
