Not sure where they've got the 30mpg for the Golf R from. If you have it in eco, you'll get better than that (much better on longer drives) and if you're giving it a bit of toe in race mode, you'll get substantially less... I'm yet to find a need for the in-between 'drive' mode. You're thrashing it or you're cruising it!

I also think the Type R looks a bit extreme too, What happened to the ole days where the Type R was more about fun rather then laptimes? And it looked like an actual car and not a spaceship?..

I'd pick the Golf R every time. I seriously would not be caught dead in the ricer. I'm in my 30s. Seriously. But again I wonder if young boys have the money to buy something like this.

Like Chanante, I am perplexed by this verdict. In the 6 track comparisons, the Type R wins EVERY ONE!? But the Golf wins a drag race. While having disappointing consumption. Again, any hothatch worth its salt has to achieve more than 30mpg.

I love Golf R but the 0 to 200 in 18s is very optimistic may be 20 or 21 seconds in real life. And the Type R is faster in all tracks but Golf is faster by small margin??? Really iam in stright line.com or fastestlaps.com? I dont understandit
