Top 100 fastest four-door saloons 2022

Performance saloon car (or sedan) is automotive niche traditionally dominated by German "super-sedans" such as BMW M5, M3, Audi RS6, RS4, Mercedes AMG E-Class, C-Class etc.

Recently other manufacturers, such as Cadillac, Lexus and Alfa Romeo have also joined the 4-door performance sweepstakes.

Highest top speed is not always the most relevant benchmark for real performance cars, but it sure is a prestigious title, and, due to the laws of physics, it favors large saloon cars with big, powerful engines.

This list is limited by available data and new vehicles will be added as new data arrives.

If you take off all those Brabuses the Bentley and Hellcat become the fastest.

the hellcat starts leaking before you get to mash the gas.

it’s the rwd version of ford taurus sho that shares the same quality from last century.

User avatar

Cocobe  2w ago

I definitely would not want to be going 200mph in a hellcat.

Top 8 cars are all Brabuses, and I don't think any of them was ever really tested at those speeds.

Where is Vauxhall Lotus Charlton omega , ,1995?

User avatar

SpeedKing  2w ago @FastestLaps

The 285 km/h was speed limited. Some say it could do 300+ km/h but i can't see that happening with only 380hp...

User avatar

Corvolet3  2w ago @SpeedKing

That's right. The only car around the time that could POSSIBLY have a higher top speed is the Alpina B10 Biturbo. And I'm very certain it made more than the claimed 350 hp cause with that it would just barely manage 280 under the best circumstances.

Personally, I think the first E segment sedan to hit 300 reliably was the BMW E39 M5

User avatar

FastestLaps  2w ago @SpeedKing

380 hp is a lot of hp... I think it could get close to 300 and with some downhill and tailwind (pus speedo error) could definitely show indicated 300 at some point. Sedans have good aero for top speed.

User avatar

FastestLaps  2w ago @SpeedKing

The Ferrari F355 had 300 kph top speed with same power. Its aero drag is probably not leaps and bounds better than a smooth sedan like Omega, although it probably is overall better (smaller frontal area, slightly lower roofline).

I haven't seen any F355 test where it reached 300 kph. Factory claim was 295 kph and it seemed a bit overoptimistic for me.

User avatar

Corvolet3  2w ago @FastestLaps

Yet the 360 "only" has a claimed top speed of 296 kph. I'm not too convinced on the F355 claim honestly.

User avatar

FastestLaps  2w ago @196ss

Fair point

User avatar

196ss  2w ago @FastestLaps

However 500E AMG Hammer looks like achieved 300 in testing

User avatar

FastestLaps  2w ago @196ss

That one probably had 385 very well fed and shiny pur sang AMG horses. Kind of like "Porsche horsepower" today :)

User avatar

Corvolet3  2w ago @196ss

Same story as the Alpina B10 Biturbo if you ask me. Could be inaccurate GPS readings too, cause especially with that chassis this car would require at least 400 horses to hit the 300s.

User avatar

FastestLaps  2w ago @Corvolet3

Is there a video of some of these cars hitting 300 with GPS telemetry device? Accuracy in this case would depend mostly on time - for how long this 300+ kph was held. If it was like 10+ seconds then GPS should average out to being accurate. If it was for few seconds - it could be inaccurate.

In any case - they also had the regular wheel rotation speed based speedometer for cross validation. Between those both I don't think there should be very big error.

Wind direction and speed is probably biggest source of error.

Corvolet3  2w ago @FastestLaps

Only video I could possibly find to it is this one. And they don't really push it over 260 kph:

A while ago I was analyzing and finding some data about this specific car, and with these figures it's very unlikely to ever get to 300. Best I could find and what I predict in top speed would be 296.

0-100: 5.3s // 0-160: 11.9s // 0-200: 18,5s // 0-250: 36,4s

I know there's a few videos on the M5 E39 doing 300 reliably, but the Hammer is most likely too rare for anyone to actually consider a top speed run.

User avatar

SpeedKing  2w ago @FastestLaps

I haven't seen GPS used for the Opel Lotus Omega just car speedos for the high speed runs. We both know that car speedos can be out by 20km/h at 300km/h so unless you have a link it didn't happen :)

AMuS did a comparison test with Alpina and Opel Lotus Omega.
Probably would be interesting for you:

Corvolet3  2w ago @196ss

Very interesting in fact. I'm not sure if you saw it but I made my own little analysis of cars around the time and 2 of the 3 were surprisingly close to those tests. As for the 500E, I was probably extremely optimistic haha.

I had the M5 around 23 seconds to 200, the Lotus mid 17s and the Merc at 22 seconds. It's crazy I was 5 seconds off if those conditions were acceptable enough.

Where the F is BMW E60 M5 G Power? That car went 373 kmh (gps) and is capable of doing even more and you don't even put it on the list, but you put Mercedes in first 7 places ... Stupid Mercedes fanboy

User avatar

Panzkmcrxoxo   2y ago

M5 (E60) not on list, it had a top speed of 204 mph. And the Alpina B5 S should be listed as having a V10 (as the M5 was built with a V10 from 2006-2010), not a 4.4 L V8.

No Ford in the list

User avatar

If I've learned something from this list, it's that ANY Brabus vehicles are very FAST. Even The GL63 Biturbo goes 186mph! Someone should add the Auto Dynamics GLE Project Inferno (806hp).
