Back in 2007, some prototypes of a 159 equipped with sporty aero elements were spotted around the Nürburgring. This project was an attempt to make a 159 GTA to compete with the M3, C63 and RS4 of the time. No one was sure about what engine was under the hood of the prototype, but there were 2 main options.
A Tuned V6 (no one knows if it was the JTS) or the glorious Maserati V8 that later went into the 8C Competizione, in the 4.2 or 4.7l configuration. The V6 was later abandoned due to unreliability of the trasmission, but we still don't know if the V8 was the 4.2 or 4.7l. With the crisis of 2007/2008 the project was abandoned.

For such a purpose built car such as this, the competition it was/is up against really made one heavily question what it offered on all lvls, especially with that price tag.

Such a shame, really.

Should still appreciate at least, but not as much as the market initially predicted. Should only do insane numbers whenever very niche collectors with cravings succeed in adding one into their collection.
