I like how this is tiny and lightweight, but what stopped them from putting a decent turbo 2.0 making 300+hp in this?

Renault needed to develop a new engine, because the old 2.0 doesn't accomplished the future emissions norms.
So they choose a 1.8, ligther, with low emissions and very sofisticated.
With the twin scroll turbo don't need more capacity.

Renault just wanted to be sure that they **** up against a Cayman S. Same with the Megane against the rest of the Hot Hatches and the Clio RS16 which they did not build. Some just want to be losers. There is no reason.
