A family minivan is less disappointing than turning one of the best hatches into this ugly bloated, lowered fwd crossover-thing.

FastestLaps 3y ago @latvietis96
I actually like minivans more than SUVs. Especially something like X6 which is tasteless, useless abomination (there is something really wrong morally and intellectually with 95% of people who buy a BMW X6). The X5 is just a little bit worse than minivan because it is a minivan, only with needlessly big wheels and tyres, 4 wheel drive and less space inside.

FastestLaps 3y ago @Cocobe
Just ban all SUVs and crossovers. If they are forcing strict emissions standards and banning carburetors, why not ban inefficient tall cars? They contribute to global warming just as much.

Cocobe 3y ago @FastestLaps
Well I do get the urban SUV. Lots of storage over a smaller size footprint. To be fair, sportscars and supercars usually are even less efficient. But to buy a giant SUV with little storage room, little practicality, little utility, little off-road ability, and to pay MORE for it, speaks volumes of the owner. I would not be caught dead at the wheel of such a thing.

FastestLaps 3y ago @Cocobe
Minivan is better with storage space than urban SUV. Also cars like Golf Plus or Touran which are "micro-minivans". None of the expensive big tyre stuff or the all wheel drive which nobody ever needs (apart from northern countries).
I don't understand the desire to have urban car which somehow mimics offroad vehicle, when nobody uses them offroad and the extra ground clearance and 4wd just end up doing nothing but wasting fuel.
I understand SUVs and pickup trucks are great if you are land owner with rural properties or if you really do use them often for trips on unpaved roads or if you live where it snows a lot in winter. But those are maybe 10% of the SUV buyers.

Cocobe 3y ago @FastestLaps
Well an urban suv easily outperforms a FWD front heavy minivan on skinny tires in terms of driving fun. However it’s the car-illiterate who buy essentially minivans with Crossover bodies because they think their pathetic crossover is like an X5 just because they share some similar shapes.
And really tbh, a proper minivan has more room than any s class or Bentley. Over in asia, luxury minivans are very popular

FastestLaps 3y ago @Cocobe
Maybe because Asians have higher IQ and don't feel the need to compensate for their shortcomings with big, imposing SUVs. :)
Perfect compromise for car enthusiasts is estate/station wagon body type. You still have the hatch back and it's the same length as SUV so plenty room in back. Only thing you lose is ground clearance and a little bit of space maybe.
They need to Taycanize this. Would be so much better than Tesla Model X. The hybrid powertrain seems like too much of a rat's nest to me.

SpeedKing 3y ago @FastestLaps
Your contempt of SUV's closely matches mine. I hate them with a passion and the only peeps that need the ute versions are tradies and farmers on properties where 4WD's are useful. The rest are merely sheep. Monkey see monkey do urgh

rabbid duck 3y ago
based on what? you do know they have to. meet eu emission standards and so forth, this isn't 1970, given how low it's emissions are the performance is excellent

aaayy 3y ago @SpeedKing
I like my SUVs to be real off-road SUVs, not the shitty crossovers we have now. Like the new Ford Bronco, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Nissan Patrol. Not a ****ing RAV4 or a Rouge or a Murano or a CRV or the shitty Pilot. I’ll accept Subaru’s because they’re much better than crossovers.

Telboy 2y ago
Says someone who hasn't seen it in the flesh or even bothered to drive it, yawn!!

Hoppelmoppel123 1y ago @FastestLaps
They have taycanized it with the Taycan Cross Turismo, which doesnt have less ground clearance than Crossovers. It also handels better offroad thanmost of the SUVs.

It is completely subjective as for a person that has never been in an m140i then the m135i will be amazing. Just because it isn't red or no longer has the inline straight 6, doesn't mean that the car is a disappointment. It was purposely downgraded and you can't compare the bow m135i to the m140i as they are incomparable. The bow m135i is practical, and has better fuel economy, is more spacious, and is just generally a better all round hot hatch. It can handle so much better than the m240i and can cover ground just so much faster. Just because it doesn't have the same noise as the straight six or power output, doesn't mean the car is a disappointment. If its that big of a problem to you go buy the m140i, however the same power and torque can easily be achieved by a stage 1 remap. Plus you get a nicer cabin and more tech and just a nicer place to be.

Spot on. Absolutely Love mine. Here’s a thing, remember the old EVO 8 fq300, was a quick car in its day, a good mate of mine had one, I drove it and thought Christ that’s quick. Had a 0-60 time of 5.1 and weighed 1400kg. M135i weighs 1500kg, 0-60 4.6 with the same BHP. Is say that’s pretty impressive. Now everyone STFU and wait for the full fat F40 M140/M145i due end 2022, let’s see you faces when this hits the road and wipes the floor with the competition!
