If I was to do a W124 swap, I'd put a beefed up (and FI) LS engine in there with a T56.

These modern engines are very complex and come with many tricky auxillaries - computers, cats, sensors and what not. I believe it is very troublesome to swap a modern engine in an old car. But the very notion of having a beautiful, fully restored classic Benz coupled with a brand new, fuel efficient engine is very tempting, I see why they (that company) are doing it.

How about a fully restored, fully loaded w126 Lorinser coupe with a 320 or 400 CDI engine? Heaven on wheels or what?

@FastestLaps
There is a manufactory which has a profile of renewing old Mercedeses. They are not just renewing them, they also put modern Mercedes engines, gearboxes, brakes into them and make several modifications at the suspension.
Think about it! There is a possibility of a W124 with 630 PS, 1000 Nm, 6 liters biturbo engine, 5 speed automatic gearbox, better suspension, brakes, tyres!

How fast would it be if it had a 6 speed manual?

Who decided that the "standard" 7.3 (with more than 500 horsepower in early 90s) was not powerful enough and came up with this? Crazy :D

There is absolutely no space left in that engine bay. Damn...
