If we know the net hp why we have the gross up there?

In 1971 GM posted both the gross and net figures. The 1971 Corvette LS-6 454 (the hottest engine) was rated 425 hp (gross) and 325 hp (net). Other engines varied on the difference between gross and net, so it is hard to make a conversion formula. The easiest way is to measure RWHP on a chassis dyno and compare to currently rated cars to get an approximation of what they might be rated using modern SAE standards for flywheel horsepower.

All these 60's cars have the old gross horsepower don't they. So 425 is more like 390.
