During Ford's White Sale you could pick up a V8 4 door for next to nothing!! Best :sleeper" in the world. 4 door white ugly car that hauled ass.

@uptownfunker: In that case, the Copo and Yenko Chevrolet Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, and Corvettes should be deleted, too. They were also dealer options.

Delete! Tuned car like OP said

How could this have 254hp/tonne yet sprint to 60mph in 6.2 seconds? The Buick GNX was a lot quicker (about 4.7 from 0-60mph) and it even had less than 200hp/tonne!

Btw: If this didn't come from Ford, it probably shouldn't be added (because according to the site rules, no concept, modified, tuned, or fake cars).

Mustang II is the worst Mustang ever. It even slower than Datsun 240Z. But thanks to some Ford dealer in 1978, this Mustang regain it's reputation back by put BOSS 302 racing engine into this car + high performance tires and suspension. But sadly it's not counted on Ford line up.

From what I have read the two Charger 440 R/Ts were essentially unmodified, they changed the shocks and that's all. The two Mustang GTs used had 390 cu. in. V8s, and four speed manuals, and had more extensive mods. The most important mods were to stiffen the suspension, since the stock springs and shocks would not have held up to the abuse from hitting those San Francisco hills, and cross streets. I found out recently how steep those streets are while playing in the fisherman's warf area of San Francisco. The traffic was light enough to allow some wheelspin, and sliding a bit, lots of fun.

@ Bijan: I like that Mustang too since it has a good handling. An interesting think is the Gunman Charger 440 R/T. It rumored to be unmodified.

@ Super8 : yeah I heard about after Bullit stories , but you explain as well , thanks again .
Bulitt is the most important chase car movie in the silver screen history , absolutely number one , and in my opinion , because Steve Mc Oueen directed , management and driving this 10 minutes chase ( Director the movie was Peter Yates of course ) . Some say the engine of the Mc Queen's Mustang prepared by Carroll Shelby , and A small block in dead , not a 390 .

@ Bijan: A lot similar story also happen in early to late 1968. Because of influence of Bullit movie, some dealer from unknown place decide to upgrade the compression of 390 Cu V8. As the result, it become almost 401 Hp from that engine. This story also mentioned it on wikipedia a little. After April 1968, there also a dealer who upgrade 428 CJ V8 and the result is 410 Hp. It makes Shelby move to create Green Hornet pack. Even it canceled and only produce 1 car as prototype, but it somewhat impresive. 10 years after, it happen again and now it involved King Cobra model. This car can be difficult to find and some of them is private collector instead of sold to public and also it almost no different in exterior and interior except in engine performance.

@ Super8 : Thanks for information about this one-off Mustang II .

I heard this model got a 5 spoke wheel rather than standard wheel for King Cobra. Also, there's a rumor that this car is painted in white with no visible sign of King Cobra model.

@ BR2: Yeah it's not pretty but this Mustang is the lightest and smallest Mustang. If you put a big engine with big power and torque, it should be run like rocket in that day.

User avatar

Super8  9y ago

@ Viking and Bijan: Still need info for this. But according to my father friend, it's in Illinois maybe from Chicago. The car itself is isn't famous so a lot people didn't know it. I believe it's only sold in very limited number maybe 1 or 2 car only. It's also not listed in Ford family so this car is more likely upgrade model rather than optional

Im just curious who would buy one?... Its not the Prettiest car, even for 1978, Rather have the GSX in this timeline.

I never heard and read about this dealer , too . Viking is right .

I have never before heard of this dealer installed model. Which dealer did this? Of course I do know about the King Cobra which sold 4313 units, but the factory engine produced only 139 hp, and 250 lb/ft of torque. I never knew that a dealer produced and sold a special version.

It sold 4313 unit. But what you see here, it's not actually came from Ford. The engine is remained same but not that same. Because the performance of Mustang II is so bad and none of them had power over 140 hp, some of the fans feel disappointed. So, some dealer had crazy idea and they upgrade the compression of BOSS 302 in King Cobra into 11.25 : 1. It should be had 290 HP and 290 ft-lbs just like old 69-70 BOSS 302. When they put it in the showroom, it turn out to be a monster and the fastest Mustang II. After getting measured, the power went around 345 Hp and the torque is 380 ft-lbs. It's pretty unpredictable. As the result, this car become a bit difficult to control and could outrun old BOSS 302 and maybe can chase even mighty BOSS 429 and some Shelby Mustang. Some test driver reported can reach about 150 mph with this car. Because it's dealer installation car, it's not counted on Ford production number. It's also difficult to find since there are no different between standard and HiPo model.
