Is it true that this FL5 that did the lap at the Ring had more turbo pressure, shorter gears, specific tires, and various weight reductions?
And then it has 265mm tires, which are quite wide compared to the alternatives from other brands.

Anyway, it's the best hot hatch, no doubt about it.

It's a shame it's a manual, in my humble opinion, and I'd be curious to see how it would fare in an AWD configuration with a dual-clutch.

@FastestLaps
I contest the "Nürburgring Nordschleife Full 7:44.88" time should not relate to this. That was done using a specialized build with AC delete and additional modifications known as the "Type R S grade" which as of yet is not available for sale anywhere.

This car is nearly on the same level as the Mustang Dark Horse and M4 Competition, and the slightly older Camaro ZL1 and Corvette Grand Sport around the 'ring.

If this car had an automatic transmission or another form of a non-conventional-manual (especially with 8 or more gears), it would easily lap the 'ring in under 7:30. From my gaming experience, manuals tend to be 10-15 seconds slower than modern-day automated-shifters. Technically speaking, there are no "modern manuals," as they have basically been the same kind of manual since the 1960s. However, automatics have evolved so much quicker in advance (2-to-4-speeds were the only things available between the '40s and the '80s; 5-speeds became available in the '90s, 6-to-8-speeds in the 2000s, 9ers & 10ers from the last decade on).

Yes, it is a lot more expensive than previous Type R but I think this may be the most compelling new perf car for regular mortal people who can't afford 100k for a car, yet want something that has real 4 seater capacity (with people who actually have legs) and enthusiast performance (can match and beat M3 E92 on track) and freaking MANUAL gearbox (some Ferrari and Porsche buyers pay fortune for "extra" like that lol).

I'm only noticing these Car & Driver acceleration figures now.
They are what I expected them to be - quick but not too quick.
The Honda Civic Type R is front wheel drive after all.
What surprises me is that Car & Driver are including all individual figures - from 0-30 up to 140 mph.
Could this be them going back to the old tradition?
I would love to think so.
Only time will tell!

Safe driving from Flt 158

I used to say that the Civic type R looked ridiculous, and riced up.

I now say, I prefer that, than this... just looks like a sedan with an aftermarket wing. It also doesn't help that it's slower than the old car in a straight line, and marginally faster around the track, thanks to more aggressive tires.
