The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is not a slow car. It does reach the promised 203-mph top speed. Very few sedans in the E-segment are faster. Only the Bentley Flying Spur W12 has a significantly higher claimed top speed, and that is an F-segment car.

0-100 in 9.04 seconds and 1/4-mile in 12.28 seconds are nothing to sneeze at, especially for a RWD luxury sedan with a bit less than 580 peak horsepower.

Contrary to popular belief, not all luxury sedans are equal.

This car would have been far more competitive 8 years ago.

The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is nice, but the touchscreen is pretty small for a luxury sedan. Not to mention it is basically the Italian version of the Lexus GS F. Neither car is particularly roomy inside, nor are they particularly on the level of the top performance sedans despite their overwhelmingly high price tags.

The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo's real-life power and torque outputs are the same as its claimed ratings, unlike the German and Swedish competition. Instead of the full-fat super-sedans, it rivals (and is in some cases slower than) the Audi S6, BMW M550i, Mercedes-AMG E53, and Volvo S90 Recharge T8.

The Ghibli Trofeo trapped 119.3 mph through a ¼mile on a bad day, and the AMG GT63 S was slower at 118.3 mph. The GT63 S is known for trapping 125-128 mph, and the Ghibli Trofeo has a similar power-to-weight ratio despite weighing around 300 lbs less. It doesn't shift as quick or launch as quick, so it should trap 123-125 mph.

In my opinion, trap speed is more important than elapsed time. If it had AWD like the Levante, it would trap around 121 mph compared to the GT63 S' average 127, and that's because the Levante's AWD system is not as advanced as the GLE63's, where the GT63 (and its E63 sibling) have outsourced their AWD systems.

AWD would make things worse for the Ghibli Trofeo than RWD, decreasing its overall performance level to that of a GT63 non-S model with stability on par with a GT53.

Between 124 and 127 mph, 3 mph is NOT a big difference, especially when you consider that the Maserati's ZF has 8 gears shifting at 160 ms (same kind as BMW M and Chrysler SRT) and the Mercedes' MCT-Speedshift has 9 gears shifting twice as quick as most dual-clutch transmissions (Ferrari Getrag = 70ms, Porsche PDK = 100ms... so go figure around 30-50ms for the Mercedes).

People just hate on EVERYTHING that isn't German these days. The ironic part about this is that German cars (outside of late-model Mercedes-Benzes) are THE WORST when it comes to maintenance costs and comfortable seating positions.

BMW is prone to lemons and most Benzes (even the AMG and Maybach models, ESPECIALLY the older ones) are prone to crap leather and depreciation.

Audi hasn't made a true performance segment fighter within the last 10 years (especially in segments D, E, and F), and Porsche is marginally decent at best.

Acceleration times (0-60 and 1/4) are closer to a BMW m340i than M3 😂 might I add that the m340i has a way nicer interior and better setup. Nice Maserati.. real nice

To be honest, Maserati have not built anything that’s particularly luxurious, particularly reliable. I really don’t see the justification of such a price

When a new Ferrari (like the SF90 or the 296 GTB) comes out, I always say that "it's pretty good looking"

I repeat, this is NOT a BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63 competitor. I would say it doesn't compete with anything in the four-door sedan market. It's in a confusing stage. I just hope that Maserati improves the Ghibli Trofeo's overall performance in the near future. The 0-60mph time of 4.0 (without rollout) is one thing, but a 12.0@119 1/4-mile result is a complete joke when compared to its super sedans' results. Even a previous-gen BMW M3 Competition with the automatic transmission can beat that.

Sadly it's slower than the BMW M550i and Mercedes-AMG E 63. Yet, it's marketed as an M5 and E 63 S rival. It's like calling a PG-rated-content film an R-rated flick when it has barely PG-13 content.

I hope that I am right because Maserati doesn't underrate horsepower like Audi, BMW or Mercedes does.

The Trofeo leans more middle-ground than high-ground, despite being marketed as the latter. That means its performance is more closely comparable to the Audi S6, BMW M550i, and Mercedes-AMG E53; although one could argue that in top speed it beats the RS6/M5/E63 type of cars.

It's that heavy?? Shut up..
