"How’s THIS for a three-way German showdown?!
We’ve got Yianni in the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S e-hybrid and he’s facing off against Mat in a BMW M5 Competition and Daniel in a Porsche Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid. But which is quickest over the quarter mile? Well, let’s take a closer look.
Starting with the all-new AMG, it’s powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor, which combines to produce 843hp and an incredible 1,400Nm of torque! That hybrid system means it’s pretty heavy though, weighing in at 2,305kg! But it’s not just the weight that’s large, so is the price, with it costing around £174,000!
Even though it’s heavy, it’s not the heaviest here - that honour goes to the Porsche, which tips the scales at 2,350kg! In terms of power, it’s also equipped with a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor to deliver 700hp and 870Nm. It’s a fair bit cheaper than the AMG though, costing around £146,000.
Then finally we have the BMW. Packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, it’s able to put down 625hp and 750Nm of torque. It’s a whole lot lighter than the other contenders, though, coming in at 1,865kg. It’s also the cheapest here, costing around £110,000.
So the BMW has the least power, but will the weight difference prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!"

The GT-Class is also more expensive than the S-Class in some trims, equal performance levels. Especially the '63' versions. That's why I changed the classification on Wikipedia from E-segment (which was stuck there for maybe about a year) to F-segment (where it was before).
The E-segment is filled not just with mid-luxury cars, but family cars. The most basic cars in the E-segment include the Lexus ES, Acura TLX, Cadillac CT5, Chrysler 300, and also the Dodge Charger and Kia Stinger to a certain degree. Those cars cannot be compared with an AMG GT 4-Door Coupe; and to be fair, they can't be cross-shopped with an E-Class either.
In all essence, an ES is a rebadged Camry, and the TLX and CT5 are just a step or two away from being a rebadged Accord/Malibu. They are not comparable with a supposed "E-segment" car (the GT-Class) material-wise. The 300 and Charger also aren't comparable tech-wise, even if they are close in weight and size to the GT-Class.
It just goes to show that Europe has a much better (more refined) taste in luxury, especially when it comes to passenger cars, than North America and East Asia do. America and Asia often do have the upper hand when it comes to SUVs though.

Aston Martin's BABY mid engined production supercar will be inheriting this internal combustion engine plus the hybrid assistance E motors or something extremely similar . It will have full carbon fibre monocoque chassis architecture apparently so will weigh hundreds of kilogrammes less being a two seater too. Unfortunately it's 2024~2025 production manufacturing cycles. The forthcoming "Vanquish" although the name has gone too!
