It looks like a 1930's stretch Hummer for H***er. But to be honest, I like it, also, if I'm correct, this is the first all wheel drive vehicle. The 1940 Willys Jeep still takes the title as the world's 1st 4X4 only because the G4 has 6 wheels.

the first petrol powered car with AWD was from the Netherlands ... from
1903 the Spyker 60HP a race car...
1907 Daimler Dernburg Wagen the first AWD car for road use it was mainly developed to make the police in German south west Africa more mobile
1915 first AWD truck by Renault
1935 first AWD petrol powered car with one engine for each axle Tempo G1200
1966 first small sclae production road car with permanent AWD Jenson FF
1972 first mass production car with connectible AWD subaru
1980 first mass production car with permanent AWD Audi

@ Mental: Who knew?, an Alfa Romeo halftrack. :D

I found that Alfa (1925 Alfa Romeo RM Winter Sports Half Track is the correct name):

Exists in one unit. So how do you like this Italian exotic supercar? :D

It damn reminds me those German half-caterpillar "Hanomags" of the War period... Just put a machine gun on it...

I also remember something similar came from Alfa Romeo. But unlike this Mercedes, Alfa was ACTUALLY a half-caterpillar vehicle! As I remember correct, it was called Sports Truck, or something.

@ Super8 & Fangio Man: I agree, as a matter of fact, this vehicle looks familiar, if I'm correct, the Panzerwerfer halftrack was based on this. The Willys Jeep still takes the title of the world's first SUV.

But still, it's a masterpiece of off road vehicle before Jeep

@Super8
On road, probably yes. Offroad? To be honest, I doubt.

Can it really climb a steep hill?

Topspeed is around 75 km/h, depends on tyres.

This is most likely the predecessor of the G63 6x6...

About 72 specimens of the G4 were built between 1933-1939 of which only four are still existing. The three-axle vehicle with moderate cross-country abilities is driven by both rear axles. It is equipped with two gear-boxes: A five-speed transmission for road traffic as well as a reduction gear for cross-country purposes. It is powered by a 8-cylinder 540K engine without supercharger. The output is 115 PS. Originally, this car had been conceived as a military vehicle for general staffs. Most of these cars, however, were used by the leaders of the Third Reich.
