No, it uses Rovers K-Series VVC engine, the same that's used in the early Lotus Elises and Caterhams.

BMW318is has more power (140bhp)than the normal BMW318i (115bhp). I owned an MGF VVC for six years and loved it for speed from the lights and agility. Sadly it had to go due 2 x head gasket failures and cam belt falling off at speed killing Cylinder head, pistons, VVC unit, disaster!!

I totally agree with waldyk, that bmw 318i is not anywhere near as quick or agile. Mgf vvc 0-62 mph in 7s, 318is 1.9 is 10.5s or so....

People have put VVc engines into metros/100s Is it the mgf engine??? I have a rover 100 ascot 1997 and dont want to scrap it . Therefore I want to pimp it up withe a bigger engine ,,drop some body wieght etc budget of 6grand

Don't believe this one can be slower than bmw 318. That BMW is actually 200 kg heavier and , furthermore, it has 115 hp while this MG MGF with VVC has 30 extra HP! Something's really wrong here...
