In 2002 it was the king of the compact class in Europe (because the Euro spec WRX STi had "only" 265 PS). It's so sad that the current Lancer Evo is far from being the king.
In 2002 the sport version of compact cars in the European market (I don't count the very limited FQ and 280+ PS Impreza models):
Mitsu Lancer Evo VII: 280 PS, 383 Nm
Subaru Impreza WRX STi: 265 PS, 343 Nm
VW Golf R32: 241 PS, 320 Nm
VW Beetle RSI: 225 PS, 320 Nm
Subaru Impreza WRX: 225 PS, 300 Nm
Audi S3: 225 PS, 280 Nm
Ford Focus RS: 215 PS, 310 Nm
Seat Leon Cupra R: 210 PS, 270 Nm
VW Golf/Bora/Seat Leon 2.8 VR6: 204 PS, 270 Nm
Volvo S40 T4: 200 PS, 300 Nm
Opel Astra OPC: 200 PS, 250 Nm
Honda Civic Type-R: 200 PS, 196 Nm
Toyota Corolla TS: 192 PS, 180 Nm
VW Golf 1.8 T/Bora 1.8 T/Skoda Octavia RS/ Seat Leon 1.8 T/ Audi A3 1.8 T: 180 PS, 235 Nm
