This was basically the Chevy Caprice's successor, as the Impala (from 2000) was a replacement for the Lumina. From 1995 on, the Aurora was GM's answer to the F-segment luxury sedans: Chrysler Concorde and Ford Crown Victoria.

Oddly enough, the Bonneville, the LeSabre, and the Park Avenue all were cheaper than the Aurora (likely due to use of smaller, weaker engines), yet they still were technically "uplevel" and competed with the Chrysler LHS and Mercury Grand Marquis (the Marauder was a competitor for the Bonneville GXP, not the '90s Impala SS, because of engine displacement and chronological reasons).

The Impala, Grand Prix, Century, Regal were competitors with the downmarket Dodge Intrepid and Chrysler 300M, as well as the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable.
