Even with 57 percent of the weight on the front , Sports Car Graphic said, " Overall handling feel , for a production car - was as near to a front engine race car as we have ever driven .

The 1970 1/2 Firebird came with a Unique styling , in my opinion one of the best designs anywhere . came with three 400 ram air engines : from 3196 Trans Ams for 1970 just 88 came with RA IV and very handful with RA V and the rest with RA III sold to the general public .
A four speed M-20 or M-21 with Hurst shifter was standard , Turbo Hydra-matic was optional . Both came with 3.55 std gears and 3.31 and 3.73 as optional .
Quick 14:1 variable-ratio power steering , stiffer springs and Heavy-duty front and rear sway bars teamed with Polyglas F60 X 15 tiers on Kelsey Hayes Rally II wheels . Standard 10.9 front Disk brakes . Its unique front air dam and fender air extractors created more than 50 pounds of downforce on the nose at high speeds . it claimed equal downforce to the tail from a big decklid lip and small spoilers in front of the rear wheels . inside complete instrumentation was standard and included a beautiful formula steering wheel and a tachometer turned on its side to redline at 12 o'clock , just like in a real race car .
