This is all wrong. The article states the specs are for the 455HO...but the specs shown are for the base 400, which with 417lb/ft of torque was no slouch. Poor 0-60 times are due to the testing procedures at the time which were done in a manner as to "not cause wheel spin" which was very hard to control on 14" belted or even radial tires. I know, I had a 72 GTO with the aforementioned 400, it was a very quick car.

This car is a reminder of the sad part of America's automotive history, so this GTO was a 455 "H/O", high output only by name, but it was powerful compared to most other American cars of the same year.

The last sport GTO with big and powerful engine. Motor Trend test in and it can reach 15.4 @ 92 mph for 1/4 mile and 7.1 sec for 0-60 mph with 4 Speed 3.55 final. Only 646 cars that sold in 1972.
