In older cars, the speedometer had a cable attached to it that went to the transmission or even the wheel hub. The cable would read the rotations and feed that information into the speedometer which would then turn it into a readable speed. Newer cars use electronic speedometers. They use either a speed sensor attached to the transmission or a gps module that goes behind the speedometer, making them more accurate. In the US the car speedometer must be with + / - 5mph of the actual speed measured at 50 mph.

and btw, the same engine used in base carrera is also used in the turbo and gt2 with different internal parts and you end up paying over 100k+ because german d-bags know how to make easy money from ignorant customers that can't tell the base carrera is also turbocharged with lower engine cc different turbos etc...
