GT-R is a completely different car.
Even if it's at the same price range. It's not a pure drivers car.
DCT, AWD, millions of aids.
Also, a pretty rought looking comparing to the Viper.
The real threat is the new Z06
Rest, i'm partly agree, it should be even quicker at the track maybe, and fronts doesn't look that brutal as before. Still it looks absolutly awesome.

IMO other problem with it, its that You can always have something better, Viper has few good points in the bast that was hard to beat.
-not expensive
-man's car
-one of the fastest
-bargin sports car
Now...
-We have a lot of cheaper cars
-Now its not so brutal looking its europeized in design
-Cars are already too fast, we need controll over crazy speeds
-We have many fast and cheap cars, just GT-R its about better bargin

still cannot believe they wont let you test drive a car, That is absurd, Specially if your gonna spend 50k on a car, I also agree on the Viper being batshit brutal and limiting its customer base, That is a very good point.
Ive laways thought the Viper was too "Common" through out all its years they should have built half, But i think the biggest problem, Is the price, $140,000...for a Viper? Are you kidding me?..Thats still a bargain, But Viper should NOT be THAT expensive, For the last(Excluding these nes Vipers) Have been in the $80,000 range for almost 20 years, Amazing, And it should have stayed that way, Hell look at the Vettes, Theres barely a price hike between the generations.
But theres alo Ralph Ghillies, Who hasnt done a good job with getting the Viper out there.
1: Lower the price, Not over 100k fully loaded, And give us Europeans the same American price.
2: Side exhaust, Yes there cool, But theres that burning your leg part, And there illegal in alot of places in Europe, Get rid of that and you get a broader audience.
3: I usually dont say this, But quality, To be honest this particular Viper seems of less quality then the previous one..Its rather weird because some are of excellent quality yet others are literally falling apart, Extremely strnge.

I know, from the new five year chrysler plan that the viper will be refreshed next year. So i would think if they are updating the viper in the face of low sales and faster competition, then they will make sure it becomes competitive and starts selling properly. Otherwise whats the point of wasting money on improving it? So this leads me to believe that the 2016 model year DODGE Viper will kick ass once again!

I know exactly why this isn't selling. If you want american muscle, a GT500 is less than 1/2 the price, but even more power, and has a much better heritage and name.
corvette on the other hand has rebranded itself to beat the best sports cars in Europe at their own game.
I think on one hand it's smart to make a 700+hp challenger, but on the other hand, makes the viper even harder to sell

There are a few reasons that I see for the poor sales.
1) Steep competition. The Viper has more competition than ever, and while being a bargain, there are several cars that aren't too far off.
2) Intimidation. The Viper has a reputation as being batshit crazy. This could steer away customers before they even think about getting behind the wheel. It automatically limits its customer base. It's unlikely that people who are just looking for the exotic look will risk limb and life just for strikingly good looks.
3) Dealerships! Even if I pulled up in a Ferrari F12 and walked into a dealership with 120k dollars in a suit case, there are Dodge dealerships that would not let me test drive the car. The Sales people are afraid to let customers behind the wheel.
The dealership thing really irks me. I was at a chain style dealership called Autonation about a month ago. Autonation is a little bit like CarMax, but they tend to focus on new cars. Anyway... the only car that I was considering over a C5 Z06 was a newer GT500. They happened to have a nicely priced 2011 GT500 for sale. I could not, for the life of me, convince anyone to let me test drive that car. Not the sales manager, not the general manager, nobody! Company policy they said. They didn't want to risk the car on the driving ability of a stranger. They even gave me the BS that their insurance wouldn't allow it when I pushed even harder. I couldn't believe it.

The stock market suggests we are in another period of crazy profits. Surely there have to be enough people willing to spend some of those $$$ for a toy like Viper :)
If they can't sell them now, they surely won't when the next crisis (correction) happens :)

The production of the Viper is halted again because of the even lower sales number. Between 14th April and 23rd June the Viper was out of production because of the many unsold one. In 23rd June Dodge restarted the production but now they stop it again.
If it goes like this there will be more days in 2014 when the production is halted than days when they actually produce Viper.

Todays world works in a diffrent way.
A bad opinion of few journalist from MotorTrend published on YT can totaly destroy sales, from potential 10.000/year to 1.500
And the biggest problem is C7.
If New Viper would come alive 3 years ago, and journalist would say that is cool car for real men, then is could sale in number of 20.000/year or more.
Viper just have very bad luck and all things combined desroys the sales.

As is, the Viper isn't selling well. I think it's a mix of a high price-tag and some relatively bad press. If you could make a car that had the exotic looks of a Viper, but C7Stingray performance/price, I feel sales would soar...
Chevy is doing something right. There's a lot to be said for an affordable sports car. 11,600+ total sales in 2014 alone(as of April).

Im fine with more variations, But i dont want to see a V8 in one, No less then a N/a 8.0L V10, No less.
The Viper isnt the kind of car that should be 50k, If Dodge wanted, They could make that CopperHead Concept into production, Which they should have done long ago, 50k and a V8, And maybe even a whole Snake range, DiamondBack/CopperHead/Rattler/BushMaster lol/Mamba/ etc, All Dodge SRTs. But id rather see the Viper go then give it a V8, Thas like given a 911 Turbo a V12 or a Corvette a 3Cylinder.

this project failed so hard that its even difficult to finda place when anyone can start to improve sales.
IMO
Create at least 3 versions of Viper:
1-Cheap Viper for 50k made form other dodge components and with that V8
2-V10 Viper but improved in many areas like ride comfort, predictablity, control, engine sound etc
3-Hardcore Viper ACR with at least 800hp, and areo kit.
This car need a lot of work on.
SRT failed, but Fiat group have people from Ferrari, and Ferrari technology, i think they can make it better, beceause they are the best at it.

I know i know the viper isnt a viper without a v10 but the idea of a rumbling v8 and less weight is kind of exciting… Ofcourse i would like it much better if the current v10 is further improved. Less weight more power and torque and more efficient. Integrated with modern technologies like the gm LT1 is. Is it possible to put the 8 speed auto from the Challenger into the viper? Not saying i want that but just wondering

It should have never left the Full Dodge name to begin with, SHould have been either Dodge SRT Viper GTS, Or Dodge Viper SRT GTS. And the Viper price should come down, Not even the best top of the line Viper should even be close to $140,000+ Fully loaded. I know companys want to make a profit, But that can also lead to poor to slow sales, And the Viper, Like every American performance car is a Bargain, I still believe this is, But it SHOULD have been under $90,000 when introduced,

The only "fails" have been Viper sales. The SRT GC, SRT Challenger and SRT Chargers have been selling well. This is a restructure to make Dodge the "performance line," and Chrysler the passenger car line that competes with Toyota, GM, and Ford. It makes sense because SRT should never have been it's own brand. SRT will now be to Dodge, what AMG is to Mercedes and "M" is to BMW. A performance line of regular production models. I'm completely speculating here, but I believe there is a good chance that the new supercharged 6.2L Hemi will be placed in the "refreshed 2015 Viper." I also believe that Viper MSRP will come down in order to make it a better price competitor with Corvette.

I have read that Viper will be Dodge again. The SRT won't be an independent brand because it has failed. Dodge will be a performance-oriented brand.

@BR2+ and others: yeah, it seems that with a big enough budget some manufacturers have found the ability to make other configurations work just fine. However, even the big car makers like GM always go to a mid-engine configuration when race titles are on the line. Notice for instance that the Corvette prototype is mid-engined with the engine behind the driver, not front mid-engined. That being said, they certainly have been really good at engineering their cars for track use, no matter where the engine is placed. Impressive. They have some excellent engineers. ...But when their reputation is on the line in endurance racing, they do choose a behind the driver engine placement. Maybe the rules do have an effect, but also maybe simple physics as well. Hard to say. Mid-engine cars are harder to drive at the limit, but it seems that their ability to centralize the weight, and put down the power out of corners without the additional weight of AWD might also be compelling to race car designers.
