They stuck a 270 hp V6 in to a car as tiny as the Rav4. Must pull real good on the highway.

Toyota Rav 4 is always my choice. It has everything I needed for a vehicle. It can also lets five people in, so I don't have to worry much on holidays or weekends with my family. Its fuel economy is also enviable with the available 4-cylinder engine. The optional 269-horsepower V6 is very quick while still getting 27 mpg on the highway. And recently, I've been searching for a good deal on Toyota Rav 4. I found it here:

TOYOTA V6 is what makes the rav4 unique - NOT styling or sportiness. If Honda ever throws a V6 into CRV- Rav4 dies. Toyota needs paddle shifters, sporty exterior Hyundai styling in order to keep ahead of competition

But some people have more years than you (12-14, I guess)

Not even close

I'd hate to live in the world where "grown ups" can't drive nice cars. You should understand if you're as old as you make yourself out to be.

I've been really dissapointed with toyota lately. They keep missing the mark with their cars.. its like someone in R&D has lost touch with what people really need.

This is the perfect 4X4 for someone that might get stuck in their lawn. This only has 7.5 inches of ground clearance.. my ATV has more ground clearance. The 4x4 package should include a lift so you can actually use the 4 wheel drive. I could understand AWD for street use but its pretty pointless to make it a off road 4X4 when its not really capable off road. This 4X4 model isnt going to sell very good IMO... the Xterra and several Jeep 4x4 models are cheaper and more capable off road.

Its a shame as the Rav4 is Japans only 4cyl 4x4 SUV... if only they made it more capable off road you'd get a 4X4 that gets great gas mileage. The Jeep compass is cheaper, has more ground clearance and gets better MPG than the Rav4 4x4. Something is wrong when a Toyota gets worse mileage than a comparable Jeep LMAO

"Other than that, it's the more horrible company ever until they start making Supras or FT-86's. "

LOL
But some people have more years than you (12-14, I guess), and they don't dream about Supra.
The world doesn't spinning only around sports cars. You will understand, when you grow up.

Toyota only has one reason to exist. To make Lexus. Other than that, it's the more horrible company ever until they start making Supras or FT-86's.

Actually, companies compare their cars to Toyota because many people (like you) THINK Toyota is better than other makes. Provide evidence that such a notion is not exactly accurate, and you could sway people.

Just because a product is more popular than another, does not make that product better.

Marketing comes down to anticipating and influencing consumer's behavior. The Toyota comparisons adds are a perfect example of good marketing: "You like the Camry because of this? Guess, what.. This car (X) does that better."

Why is everyone comparing their cars to Toyota. Germans, Americans everyone. They all want to beat Toyota. People make a lot of noise when they compare other cars to Toyota. They don't do so with other cars but only with Toyota. The reason is toyota is the greatest car brand in the whole world as confirmed by sales. Toyota knows that a car needs to be green and reliable and noone beats them on that. A car doesn't need a top speed of 300km/hr because it's universally illegal and dangerous to drive a car at those speeds. The RAV 3.5 V6 has the same power as the mercedes C350 V6 which is also a 3.5L but the mercedes is beaten thoroughly on reliability on the same engine. This is not apples to apples. The germans are beaten on everything measurable including interior noise. They only win when it comes to speed and claim to be better on subjective aspects like comfort. If Toyota is such a bad brand then stop comparing your brands to it. Compare to better brands and whether you like it or not Toyota will continue to have better sales worldwide

Never mind the power but what about cost ? There is no point in this car if it costs more than a house.

"260hp diesel belongs to top-class (BMW 535d, X5 etc.) "
the x3 has a 3.0l 286hp diesel and the x1 can have that engine too or even the pdated 306hp but that would kill the x3 sales but toyota doesn't have that problem that's why a 3.0l twin turbo diesel with lots of torque is a must and anything ~10k should not hurt sales most importantly leave it with no serious competition!

User avatar

gt  11y ago

"Oh common, that would make it twice as expensive and therefore a failure in sales. RAV4 has never been a top-class premium SUV and 260hp diesel belongs to top-class (BMW 535d, X5 etc.) " some how it has to keep up with the rivals and if its not capable in the fuel consumption department then at least should match's in performance... and that would save a little

User avatar

FastestLaps  11y ago

so this has to have at least 3.0l twin turbo diesel with lots of torque and no less than 260hp

User avatar

gt  11y ago

it already have a 177 ps diesel engine but a little bit disappointing compared to its rivals

top speed 200km/h
0-100 9.3s
fuel consumption mixed 6,7L/100km
price 34 200,00 €

while the x1 at the same price does 8.1 to 100km/h and a top speed of 218 and most importantly a mixed 5.3l every 100km/h...

so this has to have at least 3.0l twin turbo diesel with lots of torque and no less than 260hp

User avatar

FastestLaps  11y ago

This new RAV4 has grown in dimensions compared to original car. Power increase is requirement. And you're absolutely right about diesel. 300hp would be clearly too much, anything in 150-200 hp range would be perfectly fine. Diesel is the way to go with SUVs, MPVs and large luxury sedans.

User avatar

gt  11y ago

"But does it really need a 270 hp V6?"

4x4 has to have torque so a 300hp twin turbo charged diesel is what it lacks!

User avatar

gt  11y ago

take a look at the 258 ps X1 xDrive28i for example a claimed 6.8 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 230km/h and averaging a mixed 9.4

some body should change that 0-200 km/h time to a 1/4 mile.

User avatar

FastestLaps  11y ago

Yes, because I don't get the sports-SUV/sporty SUV concept at all.

Power is always good but you have to sacrifice fuel economy which is no good for a family car.

RAV4 I think are popular in USA and there petrol, of course, is much cheaper and V6 is nothing special therefore the whole fuel economy argument does not apply as much as it does here and this engine in this particular car makes more sense.

User avatar

Anonymous  11y ago

Wow, are you actually complaining about power?

User avatar

FastestLaps  11y ago

Toyota has plenty of great world class V6 engines. It was just a question of time when they put one of them in RAV4.

But does it really need a 270 hp V6?

160 hp/ton in a RAV4, now that's a surprise alright, and it's quite of a sleeper too.
It's no sportscar but now that I see these numbers I must say it is a little intriguing.
Please correct the top speed,it couldn't possibly be correct.
