Frankly, I dont think there should be a straight line speed "system" unless there are no lap times to compare. Why take one specific type of test, already encompassed by laptimes, and put that at roughly equal weight to the laptimes?

I tend to agree, but the Motor Trend figure 8 should not be counted as a lap time. It is not consistent at all since the pavement varies.

Definitely.
The current system gives too many points for starting acceleration, giving advantage to electric, hybrid, and awd vehicles, even though they often lose momentum in high speed acceleration.
