“ Engine with cooling problems
Idea number one to solve the thermal problems: turn the heater up to the highest setting to lower the engine temperature. Tricks that were once used in the Mini Challenge one-make racing series to squeeze out every last horsepower. But does it help the Mustang? Yes and no! With sauna-like interior temperatures, the power is at least fully available up to the peak before the power drop occurs again.
Idea number 2: Shift up at 6,000 rpm and barely downshift to second gear. This idea helps, but robs the Mustang of any performance. Especially on uphill sections, it now plods along at low revs like a lame horse in third gear. At a leisurely pace, it can't manage faster than 8 minutes and 18 seconds. With full power for the entire lap, the Mustang GT could certainly move towards the 8-minute mark.”
