It did it on a swelteringly hot track. 46°C track temp is brutal for lap times, especially on UUHP tires. Just about all UUHP (sports tires) build up heat very quickly on track.

For a good comparison the old RS5 Comp was faster but the track temp was about 4°C.

That much temp difference is good for at least a couple seconds. This car will be able to go faster in better track conditions.

why are we talking about rs3's and rs7's? the rs5 vs m3 done on the same day, same conditions and same driver is the most sensible one.

probably not even 2 seconds, this new p zero r is way better then the old p zero, and i read somewhere its on a level with the old p zero corsa, so i would assume that the p zero r is on a level with the ps4s AT LEAST. so maybe just a second seems fair, considering the m4 usually would lose 0.6-1 second when it would switch from ps4s to cup 2.

So if corsa is about the same level as that, yes it would be. I haven't looked at other tires.

The problem with this lap is the temps. That 46°C track temp is an insanely high delta. Even with better tires you're gonna be slower.

the cup 2 is quite dated to be honest, there is a new cup 2 connect. but yeah a one second gap seems fair to me still. but the point was this is a solid tire, and now audi fanboys just cant make a simple excuse like tires to explain the 4 second gap to the bmw, its the weight that really affects it.

rs4 comp was on the older p zero corsa, done at 26 deg air temp, but its asphalt temp of 49 was slightly higher. it was clearly better in the corners, as its peak speed on the parabolika was 10 kph less

The tires compared to that other car would've made up the difference that would've been there with the weight, though not entirely.

So fair to say the older car is faster. Though both laps would've been much faster if they were done in the winter like some of the other laps being drawn to comparison here...lol.

As for the BMW, well, imo the M3 for a little while has been almost in another class altogether. I wasn't surprised to see the gap.

it is a shame, this could've been a decent performer if it wasnt for the weight, but it might suffer some of the same consequence as the c63 e perf

Because it clearly shows how meaningless these times from this magazine are. The newer, faster RS3 is slower than the older, slower one. These times are random. It's best to compare official times, because then at least they use drivers who know how to drive.

P Zero R is just as fast or faster than Cup 2 on a single lap in the dry, and on wet surfaces they aren’t even comparable. For long stints the Cup 2 would be better, but not for a single lap.

Apples-to-apples comparison. Same magazine, same driver, newer, faster RS3 2 seconds slower than the slower, older RS3. There's no better proof of the uselessness of these tests. Obviously even if you use the same driver on the same circuit you'll get wildly different results on different days depending on weather and track conditions. Savagegeese just tested the Corvette C8 ZR1 for the second time on the same track with the same driver and despite brake system-improvements the car was now 1.32 seconds slower compared to last fall.

It goes without saying that even like that tests of a car magazine with a standardized test procedure and the same driver are still magnitudes more comparable than individual manufacturer lap times with very differently prepared (cough cough sometimes modified) cars and different drivers where on top the same different conditions also come into play.

also, as well as conditions, they have three different test drivers, uwe senner, christian gebhardt and paul englert. correct me if im wrong, but that 2022 rs3 that did the 1:55.6, was the same "pre production" car that did the nurburgring record lmao

I've done no learning on Corsa. The only Corsas I know were the sport tires on our old car, which was long before I showed any interest in tires.

The P-Zero R is a very good tire, and tests show that it's actually faster over a single lap than the Cup 2. Theoretically, the Cup 2 might have the upper hand in a longer stint, but even that isn't clear-cut these days. This whole debate is just a pointless defense of the Audi RS5. That car is set up as a fast daily driver and should really be called the 'S5 Plus' because it doesn't shine on the track at all. I'm not saying it's a bad car. It's just not suitable for track driving, let alone in high temperatures.

I mean in general these Audis are meant for daily driving rather than laps. Though in saying that, so is a good 80% odd of this website's laptimes as well lol.

If you ask me I'm way more interested in the tires. I've debated buying P Zero R a few times now. No drawbacks apart from price lol.

I used them on an M5, and another negative point is their durability under high heat. Other than that, pretty much nothing.
