Kind of shocking to see scenes like this in motorsport in 2020. But fuel is fuel and fuel still burst into flames like it did in 50s 60s 70s and all those horrific classic F1 accidents.
His fireproof suit and helmet saved him big time. And the mechanical protections of course, which kept him from losing consciousness after impact.

Shocking alright, given it was 3 sec into the race with approx 140 litres of fuel onboard and an impact of 53G. If he'd been knocked unconscious that would've been almost certain death.
