I would not be surprised that a current Cup 2R tire is more sticky than the racing slick a C5-R used. However, the C5-R could run lap after lap, and the Cup 2R lap time will fall away after 2 laps.
It's not much context to compare with a time set some 20+ years ago, as the track has changed a lot. Compare it with a GT3 lap time from this year, and the pole time was 1:45.0.
