They must have given the driver lots of laps and lots of good tyres (not run flat) to get the perfect lap. Also Nissan underrated the horsepower of the GT-R R33.

I never believed this time either. 20 seconds faster than the R32 despite having similar power output and suspension (I think R33 was rated at 304 PS? Something like that).

Not to mention that it's similarly fast on other tracks as the 993 Carrera 4S or an early Corvette C5. And those definitely don't run sub 8's

The Japanese have this tendency to drive their cars faster than everyone else on the tracks they are involved with. Just look at Best Motoring.

Not to mention, a 993 GT2 or Viper GTS ACR won't do it either. Even most '90s bespoke halo cars like the F50, Diablo GT, EB110SS, and XJ220 will have a very hard time doing sub-8s (even then, it's only possible with the right driver).

surely japanese know and feel better than anyone on their cars, don't forget that newer car isn't necessarily with new engine or transmission but changes in that transmission together with suspension and aerodynamic features, car that made 7:59 had only one modification and it was rear fog light.

XJ220 has great acceleration and top speed but not so good handling by words of owners, and by that it's not surprising that it barely can do sub-8s.
