People keep claiming this is a world record. What record has it actually set though? Fastest american car around the full track? The next car on the list is the C6 ZR1. Which though is fast, isn't stiff competition in the "track day supercar" class of the modern times.

While I love what Ford did (I have a soft spot for ridiculous projects that take courage) I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed. I absolutely can't understand how you can build basically a GT3-car for the road with magnesium-wheels, full carbon body, only two seats and end up just shy of 2 tons - more than a "normal" Shelby GT500 with basically the same engine for one third of the price. Also the interior is absolutely unfitting for the car.
And in this case not even the fallback-argument "price" is in favour of the Mustang.
It's a solid performance, don't get me wrong but what could this car do, if it weighed maybe 1'500 Kg, like it should for what it is?
