Could be one of two things:
1.) Minor changes in track layout - certain turn/chickane flattened or widened etc. This may require splitting the track page in to two (post and pre changes)
2.) Re-surfacing. New, more even and flat tarmac with slightly better, more consistent grip.

I don't think this car could be faster than 997 Turbo S. In recent 2-3 years Vairano laptimes became much much faster. For exaple it's very hard to believe that Corvette Stingray is almost as fast as 458 Italia.

this is mainly because the quattroruote pilot changed in 2013, hence after the mclaren 12c spider, times got much much faster
