51 GT-R technical problems still not sorted?

Cover for GT-R technical problems still not sorted?

I was reading some Auto Motor und Sport article online, one where they compared the Porsche Turbo, Nissan GT-R (Black Edition) and Audi R8 V10 at Hockenheim. The Turbo won slightly ahead the GT-R which, in turn, was slightly ahead of the R8 V10.

In the same article they claimed that they wanted to do a northloop test with the same three cars, but the GT-R (Euro model - without launch control) failed, because the transmission was overheating and the car had to crawl back to pit in the fail-safe mode.

Exactly the same happend some time ago during a best motoring Tsukuba 5 lap battle. To make it even more worse, in the same article they noted that they took the GT-R to the 2010 Nardo high speed tests for production cars in Italy, however, in the article the GT-R was not mentioned or photographed, because at the first flying lap at 314km/h (195mph) the GT-R's engine died.

Are there any other technical problems with the 2010 GT-R known from other car magazine tests?

P.S. Without launch control the Euro spec GT-R can achieve only 4.0 second 0-100km/h time.

@pw, yeah dude, I see what you mean; I think you're misunderstanding my argument, I'm not saying he's the best driver in the world and he's totally capable of the best laptimes with three tries in a car.

I'm saying that German auto magazines (Sport Auto especially) are blatantly biased compared to other magazines across the world; look back and you'll see some of Mr. Georg's comments. You'll notice a lot of sarcasm in my previous comments by the way ahaha.

Personally, I find only manufacturers times with a third party recording for proof should be submitted... if a person is inexperienced with a car, obviously they will not reach its full potential... add the variable of cars being easier and harder to drive... more problems

However, SportAuto times do help for content :)

What caught me as a strange was that the Porsche Carrera Gt: a car that was shown to be very tricky to control (spun twice by Stiggy on Top Gear) was faster than a car considered to be "too easy to drive" (GT-R). Yet even Walter Rorhl couldn't save the Porsche from Toshio Suzuki... and thats not the only irregularity I saw also...

\"...discredited Hourst Von Saurma as having limited experience while it was he himself that set the fastest production car time around the nurburgring even though this record was obviously beaten. Plus he drove the car multiple times around the ring before the \"credible\" supertest (for numerous days as well).\"

Sorry to say that but von Saurma is not the fastest driver. What he has is an opportunity to set official times for most of the cars, but they needn\'t to be fastest times eighter. Of course, it\'s exeggeration to say that he has limited experience, but Georg has still the point: manufacturer\'s drivers have more opportunities to reach good times, whereas von Saurma has only three attempts. I recommend you to watch very nice 7:52 lap in M3 e46 CSL at Ring. Driver gained this result despite traffic and roadworks. This says something about von Saurma\'s 7:50 in CSL. Another example, he lapped Ring in RS4 in 8:06 and manufacturer driver did it in 7:58. So, it\'s hard to say that he is the fastest driver, although he is surely great driver.

Will someone just slap some 325/30/20s on the back and make it RWD and call it a day.

Oh by the way, the problems you talk of about cars taking long to fix and cars spoiling to things stems from two things.

People who can't read (VDC part of the warranty in particular)

and

The fact that a car dealership being horrible does not mean you have a horrible car.

In my country, Bavarian Motors is the most horrible dealership ever. One of my mother's friends sold his Z3 because it gave engine problems and he was just dealt with horribly. Another friend of mine owns a BMW 3 series which took 2 years to fix; a fender bender, no chassis damage, no axle damage, just a bursted radiator and body problems.

Yet to this day his favourite brand is BMW. And I also (being a mature individual of course) will say BMW makes reliable cars.

Personally though, Nissan probably hates Germans because of both Porsche's conduct and "Hard German Magazine Facts" (Very serious, face, then rolls around on the floor laughing) therefore they gave y'all horrible dealerships and whited-out the VDC part on the manual lol.

Would do you think about my spoiler idea on the GT-R? You didn't mention it.

fun fun fun :)

Hiya georg

In attempt to discredit a datsun you:

discredited Hourst Von Saurma as having limited experience while it was he himself that set the fastest production car time around the nurburgring even though this record was obviously beaten. Plus he drove the car multiple times around the ring before the "credible" supertest (for numerous days as well).

forgot green hell was public. I recall the nurburgring being public and having traffic. one day Nissan closes the track for part of the day in the early morning eqates to 100 full empty track runs in optimum settings in your head. :S, Yes they rented a garage there but thats for testing; you want to see where everything is optimum in its performance; so you tune and test until that day you rent the track, early in the morning comes.

fell into a fallacy. The main argument against the GT-R is that its not a "drivers car", its easy to drive. Then tell me why in a porsche carrera gt (something the stig reportedly spun multiple times) is he faster than a car which "drives you". Did he have experience in the Carrera, because then that would be a biased test.

using Percentages to try and make the difference less. So whats, let say 3% slower. I mean ~11 seconds to 1.36% is like tying a belt around a fat woman's waist and telling her she's easy to pick up. This just childish. The line between sportcars and supercars is like 20 seconds (arguably 7:35 to 7:55). (+1/2 of the laptimes)

@Georg:
factories don\'t go like hundred times
they only use the driver that is used to that car
v.balboni used to drive lambos for a long time and it\'s obvious that he is faster that others

Georg  15y ago

oh btw in the last edition of sportscars is a reader letter published ... Nr.10/2010 page 6, his name is Markus Nolten he owns a GT-R since 6months and his GT-R spend so far 74days in the work shop...

Georg  15y ago

ThatDamnDrunk @Georg and Man1 Yeah Sport Auto is the best. Hourst Von Saurma is great, he lapped the ring in a Zr1 and GT-R in 7:38 and rightly laughed at them for being slower than German Superiority (The Carrera GT at 7:32). Walter Rohrl then drove the car around the ring in 7:28 and while the ZR1 and GT-R did sub-7:27's in effect DESTROYING SPORT AUTO'S CREDIBILITY.

lol
you compare factory laptimes of highly skilled race drivers with hundrets of northloop laps to set a record lap with a semi prof race driver and car journalist with very limited car experience and limited laps to set a laptime (in fact in most cases he only has one warm up lap and the second lap is already the time attack run)

and you blame Horst von Saumar that he reached 7:38min laptime with a car that factory claimed reached ~7:27min ... Horst von Saumar was in his first time attack lap only 1.36% slower than the factory test driver after hundrets of laps..and you talk about destroy credibility... do you ever use your brain if you compare factory claims with independent tests?

The GT-R Owner’s Manual expressly warns against driving with the VDC OFF (except to free the vehicle when stuck in mud or snow) to avoid damage. Repeated acceleration launches with VDC OFF have resulted in some reported instances of damage to the transaxle. Repairs for damage caused by driving with VDC OFF are expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan GT-R New Car Limited Warranty… Except when stuck, there is no reason to drive with VDC OFF

@monkeypop
Nissan replaced engines free of charge even on heavy modified cars. What the problem with Nissans warranty? The only complain is going from guys riding with electronics off (which voids the warranty) and killing transmission.
GTR\'s can\'t stand heavy engine \"pumping\" and abuse use well- it\'s a Fact.

But In russian forums there is a lot more critics towards German cars customer service than to Nissans

User avatar

monkeypop  15y ago

@ DDriver

Quite the contrary. The F458 owners got the glue problem fixed free of charge. Even more amazing is that the handfull of owners whos cars caught fire due to the flaw got a brand spanking new replacment car.

None of the warranty B.S like with the GTR. Ferrari said.. my bad and fixed the problem immmediately.

I've read guy's comments from Russia, who is an owner a european specs GTR . Recently All of the euroGTRs got recalled due to problem with aluminum alloy used in engine blocks contained excessive amount of Pl. In less 10 days the engine was replaced (from door to door delivery). No questions asked about modifications, the only guarantee drop could be due to excessive usage of electronic turned off. The guy was very satisfied with Nissans customer service. In the other hand, there are still people in Russia having lawsuits to got guarantee replacements for engines of their Porsches 996s and 997s.
And have you heard about "glue" problem of F458 Italia?
P.S. I changed my opinion about Nissan recently.

The bottom line is the GT-R just is NOT bullet proof and NEVER has been! The much less expensive 370Z is not only MUCH more dependable, it\'s also a much better daily driver and long distance car. The GT-R has loud engine, wind, transmition and tire noise:(

http://www.worldcarfans.com/110090228191/2012-nissan-gt-r-rumoured-to-get-500-hp

but lets make some tings clear..

the what so called "2012" GT-R will start selling Q1 2011 in japan.. expect to see the 998(991) Turbo in the late 2011 as a 2012 model..

and if the GT-R Really gonna have 540 ps that would mean Nissan will claim another much faster time at the ring..

User avatar

w0o0dy  15y ago

@eric: the fact that no journalist that has actually driven thr GT-R agrees with that view says a lot about the value of your opinion....
Looks a lot like you are a internet loudmouth instead of conaisseur (some with knowledge and good taste) of real sportscars. Btw the 997 turbo uses the same type of systems to control the car... all it lacks is the capability and balance of the GT-R and they don\'t have a big screen with info... the technical hardware making the car driveable for anyone other than racecar drivers is simular... only the Gt-r does it more effectively.

User avatar

man1  15y ago

The Nissan GT-R is one of the most hugely over-rated / priced POS that\'s ever been created. Comparing it to a Porsche 911 Turbo or other truly great super cars is laughable. It\'s the fast and furious generation (17-25yr olds) that have such a throbbing hard-on for such a POS. They know nothing about driving they just want to look cool and brag out Nurbergring times.
