I've found some impressive data for this baby.
http://www.autozeitung.de/classic-cars/audi-sport-quattro-fahrbericht-bilder-technische-daten?page=0,1
0-100 - 4.5 sec and 0-200 - 18.4! Very competitive even now, not telling about 1985!

Audi R8's are very nice and the new R8 Spyder is even nicer, but for me too it would have to be the Audi sport quattro everyday. Hell I wanted one so much I have taken 2 years so far to create one as close to original as possible using as many original parts that I can... :)

I am a quattro addict. A sport quattro would always have my preference over any other Audi sportscar. But why argue amongst us, everybody can find their perfect choice of Audi, 5, 6, 8 or 10 cilinder, everything is possible! I would always go for the 5 cilinder enigines, nothing can beat the sound. I have an Audi DVD where Hannu Mikkola tells us that the S1 was capable on gravel of keeping up with a formula 1 car on tarmac!! Fancy beating that with an R8 V10... Face it, the S1 changed rallying and Audis reputation for ever, and the R8 V10 boosts Audi into the super sportscar league. Pretty impressive during their anniversary year, don't you think.

Once upon a time there has been only Merc on german top
Mercedes was never alone german top!
Befor ww2 they already fighted hard with Auto Union (today Audi), the silver Arrows of both company dominated the Grand Prix races in the 1930´s and at the end of the 1930´s they fighted hard for the world record topspeed driven on public road.
Auto Union had build the first car ever that reached over 400km/h on a public road. Mercedes holds since 1938(!!!!) the world record for the fastest ever driven speed on a public road, it was a huge battle between both companys like it still is today between Mercedes and Audi in the DTM.
The Horch brand of the Auto Union had build luxury cars befor ww2 on the same level as the best Mercedes and Maybach had to offer. Long befor BMW even started car production!
A Auto Union silver arrow was the first car that ever laped the Ring (the large one of the past) in under 10 minutes at a time BMW started licens car production ;)
Audi is not a newcomer trying to get to Mercedes level. Since 1910 they fighted Mercedes on the same level...till ww2. What Auto Union real had throw back was the simple fact that all their plants were located in east Germany and that they had to restart in west Germany from zerro... with the same workers and engineers but without money maschines, they restarted by building spare for pre war Auto Union cars.. BMW and Mercedes had simple luck that their plants were in west Germany

I always have very high level of respect and appreciation towards racing cars, just check out what kind of performance do 300 HP rally cars have comparing them to 300 HP road cars, even the lightest road cars.
Racing cars are fairly impressive, nothing can beat their power/performance ratio, no road or even tuned car comes even close, of and BTW, do I need to add something about Sport Quattro, world's motorsport magazines and Internet is filled with info of this legend that transformed (at least started to) Audi's image completely from "a bit more expensive VW" to what it is today, BMW too had a similar transformation to a premium car but some time earlier.
Once upon a time there has been only Merc on german top, some still see it that way, but I think there are all three of them up there today...

Yes, i know he wasnt talkin bout that 1, i was using the Ur-Quattro as the best model, and it is, so i would Not, take any Audi, today or 80's or whatever, over a R8 V10, not even if it was in perfect condition, iz a good car, but i think the R8 V10 is the best Audi Ever made, so im sorry to say, but youd have to be a Fool, to take a Sport Quattro or Ur Quattro or whatever Quattro over a R8, let alone a R8 V10, bu thas just me:)

Anonymous 17y ago
Yall are Crazy if you gonna take any 80's Quattro over a R8, just Plain Crazy!!

Georg 17y ago
he is not talking about Ur-Quattro ..he is talking about the sport quattro thats a diffrent animal and a extrem expansive rare collector car today... price for used starts north of 100,000Euro and easy reach 200,000Euro range... even replica sport quattro´s based on Ur-quattro can cost 50,000Euro and more. It was build only 220time... and it is the homonligation model of a Group B Monster Rally car.. if I had to chaoose between a perfect condition orginal sport quattro or a factory new R8 no matter if V10 or V8 I would thankfully take the sport quattro... lock it into my garage and during summertime I would enjoy at sunday mornings the noise of the inline5 ..

any motorsport or audi fans would chose to have sport quattro rather than r8. r8 is for people who knows about audi only in recent years.

pedro 17y ago
But nowadays they are simply the best. Belive me because I own A4 3.0TDI version for 3 years.

I worked on the Sport Quattro between 1984 and 1986 for Audi Sport UK, the S1 produced 450 BHP and the S1 E2 530-550 BHP (600BHP for Pikes Peak)
A 520BHP E2 was tested by Car magazine in 1986 with 60mph arriving in 2.97s and 100mph in 6.6s from a standing start this was with tarmac gearing (top speed 125mph) the R8 produces 414bhp and is geared to 180mph and is 200kg heaver than an E2.Audi`s official figure to 62mph is 4.8s which is great for a ROAD CAR.By the way the 2110cc 20v engine in the E2 could be wound up to 650bhp if we needed it! indeed for the 1989 IMSA series this engine produced a reliable 720BHP and could complete 2 races (we did see 880BHP for qualifying)
