To be honest, I don’t trust car magazines that much anymore. Car & Driver claimed a 14.0 @ 103 1/4-mile for an E39 540i, which I knew was BS. Even worse, Motor Trend claimed 13.9 @ 103 for a GS430, which was literally Jaguar S-Type R territory (and THAT car rivaled the C5 RS6 and E39 M5).

Magazine tests can be VERY inconsistent and even deceiving. I only trust lap times and skidpad figures moving forward.

Car and Driver road tests have been very consistent since 1968.

Maybe you’re right about Car & Driver, but even they can be a little tricky to trust. They tested a “250hp” Turbo Trans Am with a 13.4@101 1/4 figure, as well as 4.6 0-60 time. That’s literally Buick GNX territory. And on the other hand, even a 345hp Porsche 928GTS that came out much later is not that much better.

Speaking of 540i, I showed you that comparison test between it and XJR, and they were reportedly near identical to 150 mph.

I remember the Turbo Trans Am test. Definitely an underrated engine in that car. Sometimes ringers come through like the 540i, but that is rare.
