Diesel is most expensive fuel for in road vehicles in America. People buy diesel powered cars here for fuel economy, and diesel powered pick up trucks for torque, for hauling. I have one uncle who just bought a 2012 Volkswagen Passat Diesel earlier this year, and another uncle who has had his 2001 Ford F250 4X4 Extended Cab with 7.3 liter Powerstroke Turbodiesel V8 for about 10 years, he had his slightly modified, it had 250 horsepower originally, now has about 400, thanks to power chips, he can dial in the amount of power he wants, and flip a switch for the extra boost.

It makes sense in America, too, regular unleaded 87 octane averages $4.00 a gallon over here.

Jeff B, you don't understand ... Fuel is way not cheap in Europe and most European countries have signed the Kyoto protocol, so there are additional taxes on fuel and cars themself to come. Fuel Economy therefore makes very much sense

Yeah, so let's all buy a 43,900 euro car that gets great fuel economy so we can save money....makes so much sense.

I completely understand the appeal of fuel economy, just not an expensive luxury coupe that get's great fuel economy...you think the people buying an A5 are looking for fuel economy? Of course not....idiot.

I don't really understand the point of a car that looks like this and is a diesel that goes like that.
