Volkswagen owns them and many other brands such as audi and lamborghini which they get lots of money from.
When they decided to make the veyron it had to be a record breaking car, so it was given the least fuel efficent most power full production engine in the world.
The record for highest top speed was broken by some american company shortly before they revised the veyron. They gave it 200 more horsepower whicu added to a new record breaking top speed (260 i think). They wanted another record so they came out with the fasteset produftion convertible in the world giving them 3 records in total.

Obviously I like a proper outrageous looking supercar.
Everytime I look at the veyron I cant help but notice the urinal shape grill complete with a urinal mint.
I know it was suppose to be a bare bones racer but that interior could have been made much better with very minimal weight gain.
I must have been thinking about the f50 when I wrote that because I have no idea why I typed f50.
Gotta agree with you and "the old lady", I don't like the way the Veyron looks at all, although that said, anything is better looking than the F50, that is a hideous car.
There are people who still buy huge yacht.
Every other Veyron edition is just to make the new coming customers more happy. Who would by a car that is 2005-11 year model for $1M+? Exactly, but MY2012 is just perfect :). It's not like VW is making more money of it, it still 300 Veyrons total
Wasn't in '05 and still not today.
Other super cars look more striking or beautiful to me.

In 2005 it could be shocking, but now it look like a big yacht between speed boats.
