The Mustang had the better lap time despite having poor braking. However, it had better tires (new low profile Goodyears that were semi experimental, although I know that they did become available to the public less than a year after the test).

@Super8 since you are very good at adding older cars, I was wondering if you know about the July 1968 Car and Driver issue comparing a tunnel port Mustang and a Camaro Z28. Both cars had 302 cu. in. V8s and every performance option available to order in 1968. The article is available on the Car and Driver website. They even got Sam Posey to evaluate the cars at the Lime Rock race track (some rare lap times for 1968 cars). I don't trust my ability to add the cars without errors.

@ Super8 : yeah , you are right i read about 427 SOHC and high tune and Top speeds . Dear Super8 look at the March 1968 HOT ROD that tested the jet set 428 cobra jet Mustang and Eric DAHLQUIST said that is one of the fastest-runing Pure stock in that time . 4-speed CR and 3.89 rear end in standard , and the Camshaft comes with .481 and .490 with Duration 290 degrees .
The maximum speed of engine was 6150 rpm ( look at the Cam ) and top speed about 121-123 + mph .
1/4 mile in 13.56 @ 106.64 mph . 0-60 in 5.9 seconds , 0-100 in 12.3 seconds .
