It Rock's and it's a sweet looking car. Randy Moore my friend's older brother had one in 1970 got to ride in it and it would bark the tires at 100 mph totally a cool car and Randy Moore knew exactly how to drive her!

Awesome cars. I had a 70 with the 400 and when you shifted from 3rd to 4th at 90 you could break traction and lay stripes on the road.

Probably the 1970s tyre technology also helped with that 😂

This is all wrong. The article states the specs are for the 455HO...but the specs shown are for the base 400, which with 417lb/ft of torque was no slouch. Poor 0-60 times are due to the testing procedures at the time which were done in a manner as to "not cause wheel spin" which was very hard to control on 14" belted or even radial tires. I know, I had a 72 GTO with the aforementioned 400, it was a very quick car.

This car is a reminder of the sad part of America's automotive history, so this GTO was a 455 "H/O", high output only by name, but it was powerful compared to most other American cars of the same year.

The crisis started in 1973

@ Z: Yes because the energy crisis make most of the automaker drop down their power rating.

It is slower than older GTOs.

The last sport GTO with big and powerful engine. Motor Trend test in and it can reach 15.4 @ 92 mph for 1/4 mile and 7.1 sec for 0-60 mph with 4 Speed 3.55 final. Only 646 cars that sold in 1972.
