@admin could you replace the Mustang GT 5.0 0-200 km/h time? Car and Driver has tested both the coupe and convertible, and their respective times were 0-100 mph 11.0/11.4 and 0-130 mph 19.8/20.2. The coupe is exactly 4 tenths of a second quicker to both speeds. Therefore Car and Drivers test coupe reached 200 km/h (124 mph) in 17.4 seconds on that run.

Georg is correct concerning the gentlemans agreement made between Audi BMW and Mercedes. Other manufacturers like Jaguar followed in their footsteps and put governors on their cars. However currentr tire technology allows higher safe speeds so higer top speeds are now given as an option. I haven\'t looked to see if Ford motorsprt offers a software upgrade to eliminate the restricthor or not.

@monkeypop
the speed limit had a reason in the past and today..
Decades ago Audi, BMW and Mercedes came to a gentleman agreement to limit their sedans to 250km/h for a simple reason, the cars started to become faster and faster at topspeed but the tire development could not improve the tires at the same pace the cars getting faster. Specially if you talk about heavy high power sedans that could drive for long time high speeds on the Autobahn... at that time the risk of tire blower was to high so they agreed to stop a topspeed war between them to self controll and gover the cars to 250km/h, after the green movement was become stronger and stronger and came into power they hold the speed limit for being green reasons.. everyone in Germany loves to drives extrem fast... but beeing political correct is also important... so they never officle dropped the 250km/h agreement..but today with better trie technology you can buy removed speed limiter as option for nearly all models

I agree with you monkeypop it does not make sense to put a speed governor on a performance car. It really makes no sense for the Mustang GT when the tires on the Brembo pkg are speed rated for 186 mph plus. I cannot find a place near home to reach the limiter safely yet but I still find the fact that it has a governor annoying.

I never understood why car makers would limit top speed. Whats the damn point in making a fast car and then limiting it just because you want to sell it with cheap tires that dont have a high enough speed rating.
Most cars that are limited are so simply because the stock tires cant handle the higher speeds. I\'d for damn sure would be willing to fork over a little extra money for the car maker to use decent set of tires with a speed rating capable of handling the cars true top speed.

Just to clarify the facts the convertible as tested by Car and Driver reached 0-120 mph in 16.2 seconds, 0-130 mph in 20.2 seconds and 0-140 mph in 24.6 seconds. It was in 5th gear from 110 mph until it hit the governor at 147 mph (near the redline for 5th). 6th gear cannot be used for top speed because of the stock governor, but I suspect that the coupe could reach 175 mph if unrestricted.
