A GT has a slower lap time than a V6 on that Virginia course? lol

Ford did a lot of good work in tuning the suspension on this model. However, in retrospect it seems that they pretty much maxed out the D2C platform in 2010. More recent Mustangs have more power, and/or a larger rev range, but not a lot of handling improvement. The 2010 Camaro had more potential, but it was given a safe and not optimized suspension tune. Now with the 1LE and ZL1 Camaros Chevy has finally spent the time to tune the suspension. It is clear in retrospect that the Camaro had more potential in its platform: lower center of gravity, more room for big wheels and tires, and of course an independent rear suspension. Just some observations.

If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Lol!, ok, the engine is a 4.6 liter 281 Cubic Inch V8, that's 68.2 horsepower per liter. Anonymous is right, it still uses a solid axle rear suspension, every other car made today has 4 wheel independent suspension except the Mustang.

User avatar

Anon  5y

I like how it makes 62760 hp per liter. Very efficient lol!

Ford did a fine job in this face lift, they reduced the aerodynamic drag by 7%. Same powertrain as the 2008 Bullitt. Unfortunately they started governing the top speed on Mustangs starting with the 2010 model year.

Displacement is 4.6 liters. Please add it!

Impressive improvement in suspension tuning between this model and the previous one. A 7.6 second faster lap time at the Virginia International Raceway, with virtually the same engine and transmission. I hope that Car and Driver takes a 2011 Mustang GT to VIR. It should be quite a bit faster with 412 hp and a 6 speed manual.

Yea and it suprized everyone when it BEAT all the asian cars and WON the World Drifting compitition! Like the movie said..winning is Winning!!

One of the main reasons I bought my 2011 GT is because of all the hate directed at these cars. Anything that is hated that much must be great. Lots of people must have seen the taillights to be this mad lol.

Mena, this is the 2010 Mustang, that one in the Link is for the 2011 Mustang, the 5.0.

Real muscle cars have pushrods not OHC with less power than a Hyundai Genesis.

User avatar

monkeypop  8y

Kind of being sarcastic. You know how everyone talks about the live axle being shitty.. yet it posts a lap time faster than a evo.

Should be a big shocker to the haters to see a stock mustang hang with a evo on a track.

User avatar

BumRush  8y

Shocked as in: Damn, thats a slow ass lap!! Or shocked as in: Daaaamn, i never knew it was that fast?

User avatar

Anonymous  8y

Why are you shocked?

User avatar

monkeypop  8y

Damn, I am rather shocked at that lap time. Bet that driver had his hands full!

Now, lets all go trash Evos for their shitty handling since apparently a mustang can hang with them around a track lol.

Still baffled by that lap time...

I love how everyone trashes this car. Hey guys, do you also trash the EVO for being a crappy track car because suprise suprise this car beat the EVO IX and tied the EVO X. So I expect to see you same people over on the EVO pages trashing them for being such pathetic track cars.

Actually:

R8 V8: 12.5 At 114Mph

R8 V10: 11.6 At 123Mph

But that all depends on sources, And why the hell you talking bout the R8's on this MusTang Page?

User avatar

tha man  8y

I just recently read an article about the sexiest car ever designed, the Pontaic Aztect......LOL, just kidding. I was refering to the R8. And according to the article, the base R8 is covering the 1/4 mile in 12.7seconds @ 110mph while the R8V10 is doing it in 11.7@ 120mph.

The mustang could be for me if it had an independant suspension. Next time you are hauling a trailer or if you watch one on the back of a truck, you will see the trailer bounce around like crazy. Thats how a car with a solid axle drives and if thats not proof enough, ask yourself why ALL the top sportscars and supercars use an independant suspension. If the mustang had a real suspension, i would have bought one a long time ago.

Here we go again. The whole "It doesn't have IRS..." vs. "It doesn't need IRS..." debate.

Depending on what you want, the Mustang either is or isn't the car for you. It's not something I would buy, but there aren't many new rwd V-8 cars in the same price range.

It's better to have choice than no choice at all.

User avatar

The body is ok but the suspension is from a Model T, after like 100 years they still do not know how to get it right.

And to Anonymous trash talker: Don't be sad that Mustang doesn't need an IRS to win championships and kick the hell out of whatever model you drive or prefer. Oh and by the way, the 03/04 cobras have an IRS, but that's not optimal for DRAG racing, which is what the mustangs are built for more than anything when it comes to the street car. Too bad for you it kicks A on the twisties too. Nobody's better than MUSCLE. Eat shiz!

The year of introduction should be listed as 2009...the model year is 2010.

Major disappointment with less power than a Nissan V6 or a Hyundai V8 and no pushrod. The GM V8s are becoming more efficient and lighter than the best modular V8s.
