On occasion of the Berlin Auto Show of 1933 Mercedes-Benz presented the newly developed model 380 with a 3.8 liter eight-cylinder engine that was also offered witha supercharger. The car stood out by a number of technical refinements like the modern motor with overhead- rather than vertical valves, a 3-speed gearbox with an lic brake system. In spite of its progressive technology, with only 154 units sold in two years the car was an economic failure. After 1934 it was therefore replaced by the 500K.
