Horsepower sell! There is no such thing as "too much horsepower". It's rather "too heavy foot" :)
Yes, which is why there is now a 1000 hp Mustang.

This car is so ridiculous that I might actually like it. I mean, 800hp? Really?
Live rear axle is indeed better for drag racing and generally putting the power down, however for every other use, eh, road use that is, where surfaces aren't smooth, it isn't very confidence inspiring. Combine that with the pitifully small petrol tank and you might just end up being slower than most other road users, who don't have to spend their lives frightened at petrol stations.
EDIT: I've just found out that even the 725hp 2010 version still had only used 275/35 rear tires. Well, I guess the tires stay while everything else (this) just keeps on getting better, heh.

@Jeff B actually the live rear axle improves transmission of power to the ground. Drag racers prefer it over IRS. However, this would be a very difficult car to drive because of its static weight distribution. Too much weight up front, not enough on the rear drive wheels. Not an optimal design to handle that kind of power. AWD or rear weight bias would seem to be required to put that kind of power down.
