Opel/Chev 2011(replacement) UTE base model engine, nothing less than 1600cc.Current 1400cc in a 750kg(load capacity)arrangement could only have been designed by an accountant.Nissan NP200 got the setup right as did first generation Opel ute with the 1600 base model.Who was the idiot/s at GMSA that decided on the engine choice for current Opel ute.
I have owned both vehicles and know what I am talking about.
Sidesteps on any ute is purely cosmetic and useless.Nissan NP200 has got to be the ugliest vehicle ever. Was it designed by a Korean?

Saveiro has undoubtedly borrowed a few benchmark cues from Ford and then Opel, wich shows they have learned what to use to build a motorcar wich appeals to the public and wich has qualities wich make sense. For instance the Ford Bantam was first with the side foot steps, opel followed. The cab of the Ford had also more space behind the seats, wich Opel also borrowed and made it bigger with their maxicab design. The Nissan came in with the largest cabin of them all to date(excluding Saveiro.)The only thing i would like to see changed for now in the Opel would be the power of its engines, the 1.4's newton meters should be upped to at least 125nm's like its sedan cousins and not 115nm's as currently is the case. The utility vehicle needs the torque much more than the sedans, its a workhorse! If they do that i think the Opel will retain the edge over all others so far.We will have to see if the Saveiro lands on our shores, it will make for interesting comparison tests!!

Our vw caddy in South Africa is totaly outdated.Opel;Ford;Nissan;Fiat are the contenders in this segment.Quality is with Opel so far.The rest is picking up though.Cant wait for Opel ute to be rebadged Chevrolet here with facelift in 2011.Will be interesting how VW( if they bring the Saveiro) stacks up to Chevrolet corsa ute of 2011!!

it would be great if VW South africa brought it here.A real freshening up in this segment. At last something to at least come close to Opel corsa utility!

In Argentina you have a Diesel and Gasoline options...In Brazil have a legislation with proibed vehicles under 1000kg load capacity runs with Diesel engine
...
THE name is SAVEIRO TROOPER !

User avatar

FastestLaps  16y ago

If they offered it in Europe, they would definitely put a TDi in it. Because utility vehicle with a gasoline engine doesn't make sense here in Europe.

User avatar

M Power  16y ago

Sorry ! 4,50 meters length...

And the VW sulamericana think in a medium size pickup, called Amarok, made in Argentina...

User avatar

M Power  16y ago

Hi guys ! I´m Brazilian (all posts for M Power its my) and the real name of this car is SAVEIRO and your version as shown is TROPPER...
Actually we have a 1.6 L4 EIGHT valves total flex (alcool or gasoline)..Thats version have a Extended cab and 700kg load capacity. The normal version have 715kg load capacity. The dimensions are small than a Ranger, for example, 4,50 meters of extension...

Georg  16y ago

it is based on the Gol which is a small car, this pickup is like the first genration Caddy

User avatar

you mean to tell me this pick up truk only weighs 2200lbs? jus how small is this thing? it doesnt look that small on the bottom pic.

User avatar

LJUTICA  16y ago

This part of VW program is really weak in Europe,I guess there is no market interest in such vehicles. The only VW pick-ups I remember are Taro & Caddy.
I think the pics explain that 700kg load capacity, the rear end is up high, guess it's some mean solid axle back there, just like in real trucks (and american "sports cars")...

User avatar

Georg  16y ago

not the first one it is already the third generation Saverio a VW Gol based Ute sold in south america only.. amazingly it could load 700kg.. nearly its own weight
