Assetto Corsa second DLC released, stops working for dual-core users

Cover for Assetto Corsa second DLC released, stops working for dual-core users

Yesterday evening I went from bored to excited to disappointed and back to bored again in space of one hour. The source of my excitement was unexpected release of second DLC for my favorite driving simulator - Assetto Corsa.

The "Dream Pack 2" DLC includes a new track - Circuit de Catalunya Barcelona and, more importantly, 8 new cars - Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV, Lamborghini Huracan GT3, Ford GT40 MK1, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003, AUDI R8 ULTRA 2014, RUF RT12R AWD and RWD variations, as well as two variants of BMW M4 - stock and "Akropovi? Edition".

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to try any of the new content, as my Assetto Corsa installation crashed every time after loading the track. First I thought it might have something to do with recent CPU downgrade in my system - I am currently using an ancient and horribly slow AMD Athlon X2 5000+. However, after checking the official support forum, I noticed at least 10 support threads with similar, if not identical, symptoms.

It seems like there is a bug in physics engine which is affecting small number of users (using dual core systems with 2 logical threads with no hyper-threading), and this bug remained undiscovered during development and beta testing.

Assetto Corsa is like a beautiful Italian sports car - pleasant to look at, great performer, but comes with its share of technical issues.

Judging by the quick response in support forum, I am sure this will get sorted out very soon.
