They need to update this article, now the fastest car is the Viper ACR.

The MP4 set a 1:08 on Hockenheim Short with Sport Auto, which is something very few non-Porsches have ever managed, so I expect a very good 'ring time.

Given the aero pack, this 7:14 isn't that impressive. The Gumpert set a 7:11 years ago with fairly average Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. If you add downforce equivalent to say a tenth of a car's weight, you gain 5mph through 100mph corners and 7mph through 140mph corners. An aero-pack can be added to any car, so it retracts a little from the magic of the LFA's lap. I'm sure that other cars fitted with similar aero aids, would make better times with similar efforts.

The fastest time with summer tyres and no aero add-ons is still 7:24.

If they had testing in Ring they do have a laptime(s). Maybe not "perfected" ones but laptimes still.

However, after seeing so many Ring records fall (GT2 RS, LFA, Viper ACR) and new benchmarks arise, they probably decided not to publish what they already have, simply because it's no longer a new record, or never was.

They want people to believe their car is faster based purely on specs and hype.

But there is always the option to make stuff up and come up with completely fake time AND fake (sped up and otherwise altered)onboard video... or not publish a video at all - a la Porsche.

Oh, and about the MP4-12C at the ring. They crashed the one they were testing, and either they havent had another go or they already have a time. It would only take them a few tries to get a 7.15 or so im sure.

I figured the LFA lease was like the F50 lease. In the lomg run, F50s were being sold for profit even though Ferrari woulg only :lease"" the car for 2 years.

I'm noy trying to compare the F50 to the LFA (or Ferrari to Lexus) but if someone wants something and has the money, the person who has it will make a profit. I've seen plenty of F50s for sale at over $1M so I figure the LFA and LFA NE will eventually fetcg the same.

I think, that if u're paying more than 400k for track car (u can buy it for it's exclusivity,great looking, etc) and it's no the quicker than a 100k car, it's obviously not a smart buying.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you're just going to go to track days, what does the price to performance ratio matter? If you're going to race it, you would likely try to find a race that the car is suitable for, automatically removing the possibility of being completely outdone by superior machinery.

@NiN You seem to have the leasing details all wrong, not to berate you or anything but this is how the agreement goes.

You apply to be considered to own the car...You pay 10,000 upfront deposit as an ordering fee.

Once ordered you pay 50,000 as a tax credit check fee.

Once the dealership gets the car, an addition 1,000 is tacked on in acquisition fees.

From there you pay a lump sum of ~298,000 dollars (Which is 12k+)

After this 298,000 dollar payument you're left with a balance due on the car of 93,000.

At the end of the 2 years you are not handed the car, you are given the option to "Buy the car outright" or Return the car.

To buy the car, at the end of the lease you must pay the Purchase Amount listed on the lease agreement Which is an additional amount that is not included into the 375k original "estimate"

If you return the car you are responsible to pay for mileage over 30,000 dollars, wear, tear etc... Then Toyota re-sells it.

Now, with all those factors, the car comes in at over 400,000 dollars. And that is bare bones...

Add a matte paint job and add 20,000 to the price..

Add painted calipers 2500

Interior color stitching 1000

interior part color choice 2500 per piece (ex 2500 front of seat, 2500 for back of seat, 2500 for instrument panel, 2500 for center console)

Polished wheels 2500

and the Nurburgring package, 70,000..

This car can EASILY hit 500k without a hicup...

I said that if u're looking for a track car, that wouldn't be a smart buy..

For $400K, you could buy a racecar...a championship winning racecar :)

From what i understand, US customers are under a "lease" but it simply means that US customers have to wait for 2 years to receive the title.

Simply put, a US customer would "pay in full" for the car but since they wouldn't get the title (thus couldn't sell it) for 2 years, it is called a "lease". When the 2 years is up, Toyota will give the title to the owner and then the owner can do whatever he/she (Paris Hilton?) wants. I found this on another site...

That restriction only applies in the US. Well-healed European Toyota enthusiasts will be receiving their titles immediately.

The limited numbers plus the near legendary love/hate status this car has created over the years could make it a collector's item worth $1M.

That all depends, because Toyota will inevitably be quite a few of these back.. Remember this car is under a 2 year LEASE before your given the option to buy it, that way toyota can buy it back from you and sell it...This will keep the vultures from just turning around and dropping 1M price tags on it, SECOND this thing will never score a 1M price tag with that interior, you'd have to be the most idiotic sultan to pay that...

@Apathy, I'm 6'2 225lbs, and I find the Viper very comfortable.. It's seats are top notch for my semi-sensitive back (which couldn't take more than 3 hours in a c65 as the seats are much too soft), but i also find comfort in rides that give me a full feeling of control of the car. I find comfort in reassurance. If i know the wheels are spinning right the front is going where i want it to etc etc NOT it being adjusted by servo's and the suspension so soft that the only way to tell if you've lost traction is watching the tach jump up for no reason.

Physically I find the viper very comfortable, practical? For a single guy who doesn't have to load up on groceries or move big things yeah, no less practical than a Mx5 or plenty of other roadster 2seater sportscars.
