| When is the new Viper going to run Nurburgring? I belive it will outdo the Z06.
On a dry track!

I can't imagine Viper beating ZO6 or 997 Turbo @ Nordschleife.

| The old 500 hp Viper was probably as fast as those two, or at least right behind
them. The 600 hp Viper is the best handling and fastest of those three. I'd
estimate a about 7:40 on the ring. The 8:14 time listed for the 03 model is
nonsense, that's slower than 8:11 for a GTS (GTS is probably a little faster
anyway).

Why do you think the new Viper will be better handling car than Z06 or 997
Turbo? It has 8.2 liter V10 (which is heavy) and it will be no lightweight. How
much is it going to weight? I am not too optimistic about Viper chassis either
plus it does not have 4wd. Modern 4w drives improve handling even in dry. But
for one think we can be sure - in pure acceleration the new Viper will almost
definitely outperform those two. And not only those. A lot more expensive cars
as well.

| how will it outperform the two the 997 Turbo 0-60 3.7 sec and 40-60 in one
second. plus it has poor handling a carrera S can beat it in a slalom

Porsche 997 Turbo, 997 GT3, and the Z06.

| The Viper's engine is not heavy. Displacement is not size/weight. The Turbo is
the heaviest of the three. The Z06's suspension and chassis are not as well set
up as the Viper's. Since the original comparisons, the Viper has been favored
for handling by car mags. It's one of the reasons I don't believe the Ring lap
time listed, as I stated above. The Porsche's 4WD helps it some, but it is still
a bit of a GT car. Very good cornering, but not as good as Z06 or Viper. However
it's easier to drive than the Vette, and maybe the Viper (no driver aids on 911
or Z06).

| I can't wait to see how the ZO7 does at the 'Ring! 650Hp and ~3000#, very light
and agile, great power-to-weight ratio. If Jan could get the 500Hp ZO6 to turn
7:42.9, then the ZO7 should do a bit better. Like to see how the 600Hp Viper
does, too. I respect other cars, too, but always root for the "home team"! Ciao!

@ last Anonymous - Displacement °DOES mean size. If the room for cylinders and
cylinders themselves are large, so will be the cylinder block itself. It will be
bigger, thicker and, of course, it will be heavier. Do you honestly think that
Porsche 997 Turbo engine is heavier than Viper's V10 or Vette's V8?

| I know that the 427 ci S7 Twin Turbo engine weighs less than the M5's 305 ci
V-10. You can increase displacement without increasing engine block size. It
depend's on a block's size in the first place. The 505 ci Viper engine has been
bored out to 585 ci with the same block, while the Z06 doesn't have much room to
spare. Then there are things like materials, and engine layout. You can't
directly relate displacement to size and weight. The best you could hope for is
to estimate that a 100 ci engine is lighter than a 400 ci engine because the
displacment gap is so large. To clear any possible confusion, when I said the
Turbo was heaviest, I meant the car. The Turbo's engine is probably lighter, I
think it's more compact, but I haven't seen any official weight for that engine.

some comments to the engine weights..
Z06 LS7 complet striped dry 458lbs(209kg)
S85 M5 V10 dry 528lbs(240kg)
Viper V10 dry 711lbs(323kg)
just to compare
996 GT3 complete engine 429lbs(195kg)
The flat 6 egnine offer next to the lower weight the advantage that no other
engine mass is place so close to the ground.

| The SRT-10's engine weighs about 550 lbs, still not that light though. 711 was
for the original RT/10, even by the time the GTS was introduced it was already
down into the 600 lbs range. You are right about the center of mass though.
