Not only was the XJR lighter and faster, but apparently Jaguar underrated the horsepower figure to avoid taking sales away from the S-Type R. Now we know which is the more valuable car. The STR was more-or-less a 545i/E500 competitor, not really an M5/E55 one.

Jaguars overlapped with two different segments per model. The XJR was said to compete with S55 AMG, but it was actually competing with E55 AMG (and later E550 Sport, up to the 2009 model year) in price and driving dynamics when it came out in 2003. It completed a 1/4-mile in 13.2 seconds at 107 mph. The only reason why performance was stunted was because of the smaller engine displacement (4.2L vs. 5.4L), but the Jag had only a slightly smaller pulley (1.9L vs. 2.1L). Most E55 Kompressors weighed in at nearly 4300 lbs, with very few of them at under 4200. This one was under 4000.
By 2006, however, the XJR was starting to feel outdated. The facelifted E550 was faster than it too.
But Jaguar had two midsize sedans. The S-Type R was focused more at the BMW crowd; originally as a competitor with M5, but it could barely beat a 330i ZHP or 540i M-Sport (there was no M3 sedan of that era). The XJR was a Mercedes-type car.
Ford didn't make these cars as fast as their top-dog competitors because to be honest, they had so many gas guzzlers in their lineups and they couldn't afford to pay the fines cough Dodge today cough

I wasn't a huge fan of this Gen, But Loved the 2004 V8 SuperPortfolio(Horrid name though)
But I think Unreliable is down t how well you maintain and care for your car, A lot of people have said Tvrs and Lotus were extremely unreliable, But ive known a few people who have had Tuscans and Tasmins and they have never once had a single problem with it with exception to the norm.

I don't know where these power and torque datas come from but every site I found claim 291kw/395 PS at 6500 rpm and 541 Nm at 3500 rpm.
